Apple Watch Rumors Suggest No Major Apple Watch Update Until 2017

While some had hoped for an update to the Apple Watch during Apple's recent iPhone SE announcement, it looks like we will be staring at our old Apple Watches even longer. A new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests the next major Apple Watch release date won't be until 2017. Instead he predicts that Apple will have a minor "s" version update in 2016, as opposed to a bold new change.

According to the report, the Apple Watch "s" revision would incorporate subtle differences. Better battery life would be helpful, and enhanced color display is expected. As for the much anticipated 2017 model, there is noticeable lag time when selecting third-party apps on the Apple Watch, so that model will likely sport a speedier processor and perhaps more RAM. The most appreciable change would be even longer battery life, followed by a thinner case, although those are often competing features.

Apple Watch Rumors Suggest No Major Apple Watch Update Until 2017

Apple typically makes new product announcements in September, November, March, and June. New iPhones are usually announced in September, with the new iPhone SE being the exception that makes the rule. June will likely be the right timing for new Macs, as that would be done during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) and those developers all use Macs. Plus the Mac is overdue for some attention. The new Apple Watch release date could be announced at that event as well, since app developers could be a big part of its success.
