Do you Tango?

Because I do. I Tangoed last night. For those of you not in the know, Tango is a new app that let's you make free mobile video calls (facetime). There are three reasons why this is exciting:

1. Tango lets you make video calls using 3g. This means you are no longer tied to wifi to make or receive video calls

2. Tango lets you make calls across platforms. This means that I can facetime with my friends who own android phones. (not that I would want to)

3. it's FREE!!

The interface is very intuitive and easy to use. it links to your phone book to tell you which of your friends use Tango. Once opened Tango will stay running on your phone so that you can receive video calls.  My one complaint is that I couldn't figure out how to use the speaker when video chatting. This meant I had to choose between seeing the person or hearing them.

Since Apple is obviously allowing 3rd party apps to use the front facing camera, it leads one to ask "where the hell is Skype?" Think about how cool it would be if you could use your front facing camera to video chat with someone on Skype. The only answer I can think of is that Skype is stupid. That would also explain why they can't seem to prevent the dropped calls. I'm sure skype will get their act together sooner or later, but in the mean time I suggest you check out Tango
