How to put YOUR .pdf files into iBooks

Would you like to put YOUR .pdf files into iBooks? You can, it's easy and here's how.

We all know that you can purchase a .pdf file from iTunes and it will show up automatically in the iBooks app if you're using the iOS4 firmware, but did you know that you can also display ANY .pdf files that you've already downloaded onto your desktop or laptop computer? Here's the steps to do this and I couldn't believe it myself when I was checking out the iOS4 firmware.

I already have an app called Dropbox on my iPhone which allows me to transfer files from my Desktop/Laptop to my iPhone for later viewing. I'm sure there are other apps that allow you to do the same thing and the steps may be a little different for them. I'm going to list the steps that I use with the Dropbox app installed on my iPhone 3GS which you will also be able to do with the new iPhone 4.

Copy the .pdf file from the Desktop/Laptop computer to the Dropbox folder on the same computer

Then open the Dropbox app on the iPhone and it will automatically begin syncing the .pdf file to the Dropbox list so that you can view it later on the iPhone or place it in the iBooks list.

Click on the .pdf file that you want to put into the iBooks list and the file will open up in Dropbox in this case.

In the lower right hand corner is a page symbol with an arrow. Click on this button  when it becomes available after loading the pdf file and a screen will pop up with an option to send it to iBooks.

Click on this button and the iBooks screen with the bookshelf will display and the .pdf file or book will be on the shelf. and the file or book will then open up, ready to start reading.

Press the Library button in the upper left hand corner of the screen and the book or file will close and be on the book shelf.

pdf file is now in iBooks on the shelf and ready for reading

Now press the Home button and the iPhone will go back to where ever you have the Dropbox app icon. Now repeat the process over again for each .pdf book or file that you want to have displayed in iBooks on the iBooks shelf.

If you've already downloaded some pdf files you will now be able to read them from within the iBooks app.

Leave your comments so that everyone will know if it worked for you and/or what your experiences were in doing these steps. Remember, sharing with others is the best way to spread your knowledge.
