Review: ZAGGkeys Solo Bluetooth Keyboard

Not too long ago, Zagg came out with the ZAGGkeys Solo. This is a bluetooth keyboard that works with many tablets, some smartphones, iPhones and iPod Touches. It works with both iOS and Android.

The keyboard has a built in rechargeable battery. A charging cable comes with this accessory which plugs into the side of the keyboard. It offers simple operation with two buttons. One for power, and one for connecting the BT to your device. I connected this fine with my iPad, my Galaxy Tab and my wife's iPod Touch 3G. I was not able to connect it to my sons iPod Touch 2G running the last compatible 4.# version for some reason.

This unit is packed with features. The keyboard is qwerty, has Island Style keys, no moveable parts that you have to worry about, a built in stand, and special function keys, which I will list below. The keyboard is very light and compact. As you can see, its smaller than my iPad screen and way thinner than an Apple Keyboard, which was great for transportation and storage.

Here is the compatibility chart to see how well some of the current devices work in the built in stand. I can tell you from personal experience on this review that the iPad 1 fits very well in the slot which provides a nice viewing and working angle. Note that you do not need to use the slot. For some of my usage, I used the keyboard alone while my iPad was in my Apple case/stand.

I used the Zaggmate for iPad last year and I liked that keyboard a lot.  But in my opinion, the Keys Solo is superior to that. Unlike the Zaggmate, there is more space between the keys here. It makes me feel like I am using the keyboard on my computer. I don't feel like I am typing on a cramped keypad. I gave the Zaggmate away so I don't have it to take side by side photos. If you look at my previous review though (link below), you can see the spacing difference. I like the feedback I get from the keys. I have been using this to type up my recent reviews. I'm actually typing the Zagg review right now on the Solo as I am watching Ghost Hunters. The size of this makes it a nice travel companion, as well as for couch warriors like myself.

The Solo comes in Black, White and Silver.
