Updated Apple TV interface in iOS 6 allows more user control over icon arrangement

Apple CEO Tim Cook said in April that Apple has some remarakble new products coming out this year, and many are hoping for a full-fledged Apple TV set. A recent survey found that 21% of users of Apple products would stick with Apple at any price, so an Apple-branded TV would likely be snapped up by many. Steve Jobs had said of the original Apple TV settop box that's been available for several years that it was just a hobby for Apple. But in May Tim Cook said that it's more than a hobby. A small news item last week is yet another bit of evidence that Apple is increasing its focus on TV. There have been rumors that Apple TV will be opened up to third-party apps from developers, and last week MacRumors reported that the iOS 6 beta now gives more control over the arrangement of apps. You can see how it works in the video. Holding down the Select button lets users change the arrangement of apps, just as tapping and holding an app in iOS. This could be a first step in opening Apple TV up to developers. And that itself could be a first step in preparing the way for an Apple-branded television.
