Big news late yesterday: the wildly popular Flipboard app (free) originally available only for the iPad is now available for the iPhone as a universal app. Flipboard is so popular, and so many iPhone users downloaded it, that CNET is reporting that the service is down. The app gives you an amazing new window onto Facebook and other social networking services. It takes the boring chronological presentation of your Facebook stream and arranges it sort of like a magazine. Once people saw it on the iPad, there was an instant sense of "yes, this is the way Facebook should be." It also gives you access to a range of news channels and other content, and lets you tailor the app to your interests.
On the iPad navigating through Flipboard is similar to turning the pages of a magazine. It works somewhat differently on the iPhone, but still has the effect of providing content in a much more charming and fun way. You can read more about it on the Macworld website, as well as a more detailed review on CNET.
