Boom!erang: app idea garners $1,000 prize -- and development into full-fledged app

Eric Egong is now $1,000 richer, and has the potential to earn a pile of cash on top of that, thanks to his winning idea for an app in the recent App Idol competition offered by the website iPhoneAppCafe. His app idea -- Boom!erang -- is a game that "requires the player to flick on the screen to throw their boomerang against a certain target/enemies. The characters in the game will try to dodge the incoming boomerangs, run from it or even counter a throw with another object." It's a simple concept, yet hard to master -- often a winning formula for games.

There were 680 submissions. Judges selected the top 20 proposals, and then asked each contestant to submit a video in which he described the app. Then the field was narrowed to 10, with a team of four judges picking the winner. iPhone Life magazine is one of the sponsors of the competition. We congratulate Eric on his win and wish him great success with his app.
