Fortune is reporting that the App Store has now reached 25,000 apps — which is astounding, given that the store opened last July. By comparison, there are an estimated 20,000 apps for the Windows Mobile platform, which has been around for 10 years. And the Windows Mobile apps are scattered among a variety of stores. Interestingly, the App Store may have some competition. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that several app stores are opening that will sell apps that the App Store refuses to sell. Of course, to run these apps you need to "jailbreak" your phone — which is not recommended.
