Netatmo Urban Weather Station Monitors Your Environment

The Netatmo Urban Weather Station ($179) allows you to monitor your surrounding environment through the use of an app.

The Weather Station comes with an indoor and outdoor module to show you conditions in each location.

Through the Netatmo app (or website on your computer), you can view the weather, temperature, outdoor and indoor air quality, CO2 levels, humidity, barometric pressure and even sound levels.

With their sleek looking, aluminum casings, the modules are attractive as well as functional. The indoor module is plugged into a power outlet and the outdoor module uses four AAA batteries. Each uses your Wi-Fi network to transmit data to the Netatmo app.

Set-up is easy and once you create an account, the modules automatically connect to your home Wi-Fi.

In the app, you can see the outdoor weather at the top of the screen and indoor readings on the bottom. Slide down on the screen and the app gives you a detailed seven-day forecast for your area. Turn your iPhone or iPad sideways and it shows a graph of the high and low temperature, humidity, pressure, CO2 levels, and sound meter from past days indoors and the high/low temperatures and humidity outdoors.

It's a wonderful monitor for your current space and I love being able to check on my home's environment while we're out of town. If my heater goes out this winter and I'm not home, I'll know about it before my pipes freeze.

If my kids throw a party while I'm out of town (if they were the kind of kids that would), I'll know by watching the sound decibels on the app. I'm sure that's not the purpose of the sound meter, but I think that would be a bonus!

We keep the Netatmo indoor module in our bedroom and when we decided to paint the walls recently, I watched the CO2 levels increase from the paint fumes. Although the change in air quality wasn't going to kill us, it was still interesting to see the monitor at work.

If the CO2 levels were at a dangerous level, however, the app would have sent an alert on my iPhone so I could take action and ventilate my home.

Though the Netatmo Urban Weather Station is quite pricey, there are no extra membership costs to use the app. It's a one-time payment.

Make sure you add this to your gift list for the weather aficionado in your family.
