Oceanhouse Media was kind enough to send me a few complimentary apps to review (and my apologies Karen for the tardiness of this review). If you are not familiar with Oceanhouse Media they are "dedicated to building high-quality products that educate, uplift, enlighten and heal the planet." The company was founded by Michel Kripalani.
One of the exclusive contracts is with Hay House which was founded by personal development legend Louise Hay who wrote the famous book You Can Heal Your Life. Hay House has an impressive portfolio of personal development all stars from Louise Hay, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Don Miguel Ruiz and T. Harv Eker to name a few.
They are a bit on the pricey side for apps ranging from free to $5.99. But if they end up changing your life in some way (large or small) then I think the price is a steal. Remember it is all about the message. And c'mon people, don't even get me started on the topic of anything over $.99 is expensive for an app. Please. You spend more on that Starbucks latte that lasts all of what two hours tops? And here you have something that you will own forever including free updates. And if you all had any idea on how much work goes into creating and developing an app you would see that these prices are ridiculously low. Do you work for free? No? Alright then. Quit your complaining.
Here are the apps that I reviewed:
The Law of Attraction Cards (by Esther and Jerry Hicks)
The apps are basically made up of cards that each have their own affirmation on them. The apps are beautiful and the cards themselves are beautifully laid out. Not to mention the emails that you can send of each card is nicely laid out as well. Which I was pleasantly surprised about. This all takes time and money to do. You can definitely see they hired a professional designer to do so and it definitely paid off.
Most of the apps have the same simple and easy to use interface. The cards are laid out in a similar fashion to iTunes coverflow design interface. You tap the card that you like and you can zoom in or out to read the card better. Each card allows you to flip it over to reveal more information. The cool feature that I like overall is that you can either choose to set the card as your background once you save it to your photo library and you can also email the saying to someone. And as I said before, those emails are beautifully done. Each email includes the message and both a graphic for the front and back or the card. Definitely great to lift up anyone who is down in the dumps, etc.
I do have to say that the sound effect when you launch a card on all of these is really annoying. But to each his own.
Everyday Wisdom (by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer)
They also have affirmation apps that have sound bites if you are more into hearing an affirmation than reading one. I am a big fan of personal development and spiritual guru Dr. Wayne W. Dyer so these were perfect for me. The Everyday Wisdom app contains 290+ affirmations spoken by Dr. Wayne Dyer. It is a very simple app to use. The app allows you to play a random affirmation track or allows you to pick and then play the affirmation list. The affirmation list can be sorted by track #, title and favorites. It is pretty easy to add and delete tracks from your favorites list. In order to delete an affirmation off your list you just tap on the blue heart icon and the affirmation track is deleted from your favorites list but not from the app.
It is very reminiscent of the Jack Handey sketch from Saturday Night Live but if you take affirmations seriously, then I would recommend this app. The only downside is that you are not allowed to save the affirmations to iTunes which I can understand from a copyright perspective. But it would be nice to be able to email a transcript to someone. Something to think about.
Inspiration Perpetual Calendar App (by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer)
Lastly, Oceanhouse Media also offers calendars as well that each day has it's own specific daily saying / affirmation. You can go forward or backward to see what a particular day's affirmation had to say. Each day again, is beautifully laid out. If you double tap the text a larger version of the text slides up which you are allowed to copy and then paste if you choose. And again you are allowed to email and save to your library.
If you are a personal development junkie as I am, then you should definitely take a look at Oceanhouse Media's catalog. I am confident you will find an app or two that was meant for you.
