Siva's reviews: Griffin Survivor for iPhone 5

At $50.00, you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal on such a quality rugged case. In fact, if I had to pick my 10 best rugged, heavy-duty cases for the iPhone 5, without a doubt, the Griffin Survivor would come in on top! That’s saying a LOT seeing as how the Survivor has some pretty stiff competition in the category of quality rugged cases, some of which are double the price!

The Griffin Survivor is available in a huge selection of color combinations. No longer do heavy-duty cases have to look all industrial or clunky, thanks to Griffin. And the choice of colors is just the tip of the iceberg!

Having reviewed some of the best adventure-ready iPhone 5 cases available, I can totally endorse the Survivor series. The case offers superior protection from drops, shocks, vibration and brief exposure to water. What does that last part, about being able to handle "exposure to water" really mean? Everyone always wants to know how a ruggedized case will hold up to water, to submersion. A valid thing to wonder about too, since our iPhones aren't waterproofed yet, and haven't many of us had our share of close (or even fatal!) calls with our iPhones and liquid? Especially if you are the adventuresome type, or prone to accidents, it’s a worthwhile consideration. So I've been known to test my cases out (using a dummy iPhone of course) with full submersion for a brief moment, simulating the dreadful fall-in-the-toilet calamity. I think it's safe to say that while the Survivor is not designed to be submerged, if in due course, it happens to fall from your hand into the sink, or the creek or a puddle, it will likely keep your iPhone dry enough that it won't suffer any malfunction. For the record, if it ever did fall into the water, it’s always a good idea to take the case off and make sure no water is being pocketed against you iPhone inside the shell of the case.

The Griffin Survivor has a Military rating, designating it as fit of use in the field, and therefore tested against a wide variety of abuse, including being sprayed with water, and repeated impact. I like that kind of assurance in a rugged case, one that is supposed to keep my iPhone 5 protected in all the crazy situations I may find myself.

Whether outside adventuring, or tending to the daily business of computers and gardening and art, I seem to find ample opportunities to bang my iPhone around, despite my best intentions. So even though the iPhone 5 is undoubtedly a tough phone out of the box, I feel that I am better able to rest assured, when my iPhone is safe and secure in the Griffin Survivor.

When it comes to rugged iPhone 5 cases, I give this case an enthusiastic 4 out of 5 (****) star rating. And admittedly, I can be a harsh judge.

There are so many cases that claim to be rugged, heavy-duty, ready-for-anything cases on the market. Nothing beats consumer feedback though. If you have a Griffin Survivor case, and have any feedback or stories to share, please do so in the comment section below.

As always, thank you for reading!
