Mophie Juice Pack Air and Powerstation Review

Just in time for my trip for writer’s conference in New York, I received the Mophie Juice Pack Air for iPhone and the Mophie Powerstation to review. These two accessories will definitely travel with me everywhere I go.

The Juice Pack Air doubles my time on my cell phone. This is especially important when I travel. The case is extremely light and slim – I like that it doesn’t add much weight and size. It also protects my phone, probably better than the case I was using (not as pretty though!). I wish the case were a bit more textured. The grip is a little smooth for me. Not slippery, just not a real firm grip.

The instructions say that the Juice Pack Air acts as a virtual, speaker box, redirecting sound from the bottom of the iPhone 4 to the front. I didn’t detect any noticeable difference in volume, but my hearing is not what it used to be. It definitely wasn’t any less amplified – perhaps clearer if anything.

The Mophie Powerstation is so small that I’ll use it both in my hotel and on the go. If I need a charge on my iPad at the conference, I’ll just plug it in and keep on using my iPad.

The Powerstation is fast, too. I don’t have long to wait for my iPad to be fully charged. It charges at speeds of up to 2 amps, about 4 times faster than traditional USB batteries.

I had to get used to the Standby Switches when charging both the Mophie Juice Pack and the Powerstation. When charging the batteries and my iPhone and iPad, I first tried to charge them with the switch on, but I had bad results. However, with the switches set on off, they fully charged my devices and then the batteries themselves.

When in use, I leave the switch off on my iPhone until I need the Juice Pack charge. Then, I turn on the switch. After the Juice Pack charges my iPhone, I could remove the Juice Pack, but I like to keep it on to protect my phone. Another option is to leave the Juice Pack switch on which drains the Juice Pack first.

I like the LED indicator lights on both devices as they let me know the charge status so I don’t leave home without a full charge.

For those of you with other devices, the website states that the 3600 mAh Powerstation is compatible with most USP-powered devices.

I highly recommend both these batteries. Mophie is #1 for me when it comes to chargers. I am fully satisfied with this product.
