Take Advantage of Apple Watch Nightstand Mode with Bobine Watch

Apple just introduced a new Nightstand Mode for the Apple Watch as part of watchOS 2. This is a nice way to have a miniature alarm clock at your bedside while it charges using the official Apple magnetic charger. However, it can be a bit cumbersome depending on which watch band you have and how much free space your nightstand has. A number of accessory makers and Kickstarter startups have come up with Apple Watch charging stands but Nightstand Mode may be their undoing. Most of those stands are designed to hold the watch in "portrait" mode, or the normal vertically oriented mode we view our watches with. However, the Nightstand Mode is a landscape, or horizontal interface. This will look awkward on many of those stands.

Fortunately for Fuse Chicken, their Bobine Watch ($25) stand is extremely flexible by design. I was loaned one of their first units for review purposes and it arrived the same day as watchOS 2 was announced, featuring Nightstand Mode. The Bobine Watch is uniquely positioned (no pun intended) to work best with Nightstand Mode and with just about any watch band as well. It can be adjusted to any angle from horizontal to vertical, although the magnet may not be strong enough to hold the watch vertically... but you can get close. I tried it with my Apple Watch Sport and found it to be extremely versatile. They even include an automobile dash clip so you could use your Apple Watch as a Bluetooth speakerphone in your car!

Nightstand mode

Pros

  • Very flexible
  • Will work great when Nightstand Mode is available
  • Affordable
  • Automotive Dash Clip option

Cons

  • Minimal cable management

Final Verdict

If you have an Apple Watch, and think you might use Nightstand Mode, check out the Bobine Watch. The Bobine Watch is also reasonably priced at just $25. Many competing stands are asking more than twice that amount.
