Ah the good old days.  When the app store was new, everyone rushed to download apps that could show off what was unique about the iPhone.  iSteam was a great app to demonstrate both the touchscreen interface and the accelerometer, as well as the microphone to 'steam' up the screen.  Now that the iPad is here, we need to round up similar apps that we can use to evangelize this new platform.

I have found one such app, HoloToy from Kode80, that breaks the mold on several fronts.  First, HoloToy is a Universal app, meaning that it runs on an iPhone or iPod touch as well as in higher resolution on the iPad.  Second, HoloToy is only $0.99, unlike many apps that charge more for a separate iPad app.  What a pleasant surprise!  If you have an iPhone and an iPad, as many of us do, you essentially get a 2-for-1 deal!

So what does HoloToy do?  Think of it as a three-dimensional snowglobe.  You tilt and rotate your device to manipulate and interact with a 3D image.  There are actually over a half-dozen different mini-games or effects to play with.  Kode80 has some videos on their website (www.Kode80.com) that try to emulate the experience, but because this is a 3D effect, you really need to see it on your device.  At $0.99, if you're at all into holograms, or just want to show off what the iPad can do in the hands of the right developers, check out HoloToy today!

My iPhone Life colleague, Cindy Downes has a blog article on another app that takes advantage of the iPad and does a great job showing off what the device can do, here: Alice in Wonderland on the iPad - awesome!

Please let us know what other apps you have found that really do a great job showing off the iPad's unique capabilities!
