I follow bank rates very closely for my work and if you haven't noticed, interest rates are very low. Not only that but the Federal Reserve has said that they intend to keep rates low for an extended period of time. Just how long that really means is uncertain. In this banking environment, is it worth investing in even the best cd rates. If you're in the middle of a CD ladder, should you continue with it?
A CD ladder is a series of CDs that are set to mature at different dates and for different time periods. People generally set up CD ladders so they always have cash that is maturing out of a CD soon and it spreads the risk of locking into a bad interest rate. With CD rates so low though, you might want to consider keeping your money in savings accounts until interest rates climb back up. It's hard to predict the FED's moves, but most experts are pretty sure rates will rise next year.
