WalkJogRun Fitness Application Puts You in Control of the Map: Apple, Google or Open Street
Boston- December 14 -WalkJogRun (http://walkjogrun.net/), the most accurate GPS fitness tracking and route planning app on iOS, announced today that users can now choose their preferred map setting for route creation and tracking: Apple Maps, Google Maps (bike, street or satellite) or Open Street Maps.
WalkJogRun is currently the only GPS fitness tracking application on iOS that allows users to choose a map other than Apple Maps.
When Apple introduced their own native maps with the release of iOS 6, all apps built on the prior native Google Maps automatically switched to the new Apple Maps. This left developers fielding complaints about a change that wasn’t in their control.
This issue is an on-going concern for many users who run off-road and need to use Google satellite maps, or for others who live in areas where Apple Maps doesn’t have good coverage of street data or satellite imagery. With a growing number of user complaints and bugs associated with Apple Maps, WalkJogRun’s co-founder, Adam Howitt found a solution for WalkJogRun users.
“I remember hearing at the Apple WWDC developer conference that you could add custom maps to native apps, and it got me thinking about changing the code to allow WalkJogRun users to use Google maps,” says Howitt. “Users were giving us great reviews and suddenly they couldn’t use the app. But with our Map Setting feature addition, they can now change back to Google’s maps such as the terrain view, which shows where the hills lie along a route.”
Not only is WalkJogRun putting choice of maps back in the hands of the users, it is also the most accurate GPS tracking app for iOS users. WalkJogRun is accurate to 1/100th of a mile for every mile run, meaning a 10 mile run is no more than 0.1 miles off the actual distance.
“We wanted to build anapp that would help people find safe routes to run, exercise without injury and stay motivated,” said Howitt. “Free trackers are as much as one mile off, suggesting you ran 11 miles instead of 10. Running 10 minutes per mile, they'd report a 9:06 pace for your workout. This is a huge difference when training for a big race. It’s important to be as precise as possible when tracking mileage and time, and WalkJogRun is able to guarantee accuracy, while providing safe routes all over the world and giving lots of great motivational tips.”
WalkJogRun has the most running routes of any fitness application, with more than 1.5 million routes worldwide and 23 different training plans created by fitness experts to help users train for everything from a 5K to a marathon. Now to add to that, users can choose the map they like best, making WalkJogRun the best pocket personal trainer for staying safe and motivated.
