The Saffy Looks for Rain book app, which was shortlisted for the Appys 2012 award for Best Educational/Kids App earlier this month, is FREE in the iTunes App Storefor one day only TODAY, Friday, November 30th!
The app, published by independent children’s book publisher Simply Read Books and based on a story from the popular Simply Small board book series by Paola Opal, is usually priced at $2.99. However, today, Friday, November 30th it will be part of ‘App Friday,’ a popular online promotion started by the organization Mom’s with Apps that works to highlight great products across the educational app community. Each week, select free and discounted apps are promoted via the App Friday Facebook page, the #appfriday hashtag on Twitter, as well as on www.appfridayparty.com.
A recent review of Saffy Looks for Rain by Kirkus Reviews read, “the app beautifully illustrates how a simple story, well presented, can be simply refreshing.”
Paola Opal, author and illustrator of the Simply Small series, agrees that one of the strengths of the app, which is designed specifically for younger children aged zero to four, is its simplicity. “Like the board books, the app is deceptively simple on the surface, but it's that same simplicity—bold lines, basic concepts, and fun sounds—that make it accessible for the very young,” she says.
Saffy Looks for Rain is available for the iPhone and iPad, and tells the charming story of a baby giraffe who’s looking for rain on a hot day. The app helps young ones learn to read through read-along functionality, bold graphics, and interactive animations, and also contains a coloring book and puzzle game featuring illustrations from the book.
