How do I connect Bluetooth accessories quickly?

iPhone, iPod touch, iPad

Bluetooth accessories communicate wirelessly with your iOS device and add functionality. Examples include keyboards, headsets, car kits, and more. Before you can use a Bluetooth accessory you have to "pair" the accessory with your iOS device. Here's how you do it:

  1. Bluetooth PairingTurn on the Bluetooth accessory and make sure it is "discoverable." (Check the instructions that came with the accessory for directions.)
  2. On your iOS device, go to the Settings app and select General >Bluetooth >ON.

  3. Select the desired accessory from the Devices window.
  4. If you are asked for a passkey or PIN number, enter it. (You can find it in the instructions that came with the accessory.)

Bluetooth pairing is handled in the General section of Settings.

Additional steps may be required, especially if you are paring a Bluetooth headset with the iPhone and using it to answer phone calls. Again, check the instructions that came with the accessory.

Turn Bluetooth off to save power

If you are not using a Bluetooth accessory, make sure Bluetooth is turned off on your iOS device. When it is on, your device is constantly trying to discover another Bluetooth accessory. This can drain the battery. To turn Bluetooth off, go to Settings >General> Bluetooth and flip the on/off switch.
