Get Free Back-To-School Study Guides from Kaplan!

image

I just recently made the switch to iBooks (from Stanza) on my 2G iPod touch. Not a permanent switch, but at least to give iBooks a go. There is a great selection of free material available, and finding it is a cinch. Kaplan has teamed up with Apple to make a bunch of study and reference ebooks available gratis for the back-to-school season. Go here on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch (which links directly into iBooks library) to get these free titles... Promotion dates and more info below...

Top Gun 2 Released!

image

Now available on iTunes, the sequel to the initial Top Gun title with updated aircraft, attacks and graphics! There is a discount for early birds right now, so go get it here while it lasts. And TG original game users get an upgrade on TG adding a new AB feature (had to correct this from the original post)! A few more screens have been released, so read on for the full PR effect, shots, full DL link info, etc..

Shining Force Another SEGA Blast from the Past!

image

I never really got into the whole D&D thing, being too cool for that level of geek immersion (ahem, I might've been a ranger character of moderate EXPs once), but RPGs (role playing game) on computers are old as, well, I am. I have played some of the originals, believe me. The early games were mostly stupid by today's standards, but we loved them anyway. My friend's Dad had an old machine , on which we would play a text-only RPG game for hours (imagine that). The computer spit out a description of the scenery and game action at each move, while we would map out the mazes and dungeons on paper. Pretty arcane, but still loads of fun.

Top Gun 2 app coming soon...!

image

Don't have the details on this new Top Gun 2 game coming out, except some screens. I have the current Top Gun title (which broke when I performed the iOS 4 upgrade). Not really a flying challenge, but more of an avoidance game--still, TG has cool backing music, 3-D effects and decent action (not to mention the same snarky macho crewmen from the flick). TG was fixed in a recent update, and you can also now add an afterburner control, which is pretty darn cool. Hopefully the new game will be more of a fighter sim, but either way, I'm excited (I don't get out much)!

Free City Story App Released!

image

Described as a cross between SimCIty and Farmville, this simulation game (called City Story) is currently at the price of FREE in the app store, so go grab it! With the added wrinkle that you can also invite Facebook pals to join you as neighbors in the game (whatever that means), might be interesting. Requires a network connection to play. When I get some time, will try to swing back and do a review. App store link above...enjoy!
