Galaxy on Fire 2™ HD available for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S!

A monstrously cool space adventure, Galaxy on Fire 2™, of which I have been known to fire up on me iPod touch a time or two, has been released apparently for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4s at HD quality (and at an HD price), which I think means that iPad 1 users are sort of left out in the cold (sob). The new game is refreshed with the latest high-quality graphics which require the punch provided by the A5 processor/GPU, so read on you lucky iPad 2 and 4S owners for the gory press details...

What I Played this Week: ShadowGun

image

ShadowGun is a graphics-fest of apocolyptic scenery, monsters, and technological nightmares! The game has some genuinely fun and hair-raising tactical scenarios (some predictable enemy behavior as well). The control options work well, and the game is very responsive in all but a few situations. If you are looking for yet another uber-assault TPS game that is simply gorgeous on iPad, then I imagine you will not flinch at plunking down the 8 bucks. TPS is not necessarily my cup of tea, but ShadowGun is a blast, and it is well-done.

Review - Running Windows 8 on my iPad!

image

I have to start this post by saying it's sort of a cheat. I'm not currently aware of a way to run Windows 8 on an iPad (maybe our uber-tech blogger Werner does, though), but you can do a pretty fair emulation with a few PC/Mac tools and the excellent TeamViewer app. I'm also going to provide my thoughts (along with some quick vids and review notes) on the developer preview of Windows 8, and why I think Microsoft is getting it right! And yes, I am mostly testing it on my iPad (not the same as running it I admit)...

Shadowgun breaks new graphics ground on iOS!

image

Looks pretty amazing (at an amazing $7.99 price), the console-quality graphics provided by the Unity game engine appear to be off the chain (yes, my outmoded way of saying it is totally beyond cool)! Also now the iTunes iPad "Game of the Week", you can grab this awesome shooter here, or read on for full PR details and video...

What I Played this Week - Another World!

image

There are games, and then there are "Games". Games so cool and immersive, you wish they were actually in some sidereal universe you could visit (with game cheats, unlimited shields and heavy weapons of course). When I first experienced Another World, I instantly put it in that category. From the opening action sequences that set up the very cool back-story (could be a movie), to the point you crawl out of the water on Another World - 20th Anniversary (and see that thing on the cliff watching you) you feel creeped out... Tip to new game developers: This how to create a unique and compelling adventure game.

Review - iHome iW1 Wireless Speaker System

image

The iW1 from iHome is a superb AirPlay compatible wireless speaker. I was the first person to get a review unit, so more or less the first guinea pig user. Consequently, I had some guinea pig type problems with it, but with help from the folks at iHome, was able to get it working quite well. It is arguably the best combination of features I have yet seen in a portable speaker system.
