NetNanny meeting at CES!

image

Today I met with President and CEO of Net Nanny, Russ Warner and PR associate A. Cory Maloy. The purpose, to find out more about the coming Net Nanny features and services aimed at mobile, especially iOS (coming in Mar 2011). A lot of parents make the mistake of thinking that their kids are safer on-line because they mostly use their cell-phones, but aren't considering that offensive content and many other threats are a big problem for mobile phones as well. Young people are often easy targets, so if you want to protect your familiy from these threats, you may be interested in what Net Nanny is offering that can help.

Fitness Tech at CES - iBike helps you to shape up!

image

If you have been to CES, you know the sheer size of the place and the amount of stuff there is to cover. If you haven't, let's just say it is a Smithsonian of tech shows, meaning it's huge and sprawled over several buildings and even hotels in Las Vegas. A few days of covering this show, and you will start to get in better shape. Of course, vendors are somewhat grouped together to make it easier to find specific zones of interest. The iLounge pavilion is one such zone, mainly concentrated in a squarish area in the North Hall. We tend to focus a lot on that area, but close to the same area is the fitness tech zone. If you want to check out the latest mobile gear to help you shape up, this is the zone for you.

Steepletone at CES - Very COOL audio products!

image

This little booth in the south hall here at CES probably has some of the coolest audio docks I have seen. Paricularly the motorcycle helmet SHSS7 model shown in the video (has a robotic visor). Company called Steepetone, and they're primarily UK-based, so getting their gear might push the price up a bit. They had several unique models on display including jukebox, and Mini Cooper models as well... Added more boothshots below...

LookeeTV at CES - Internet A/V Player!

image

LookeeTV is a product I have wanted to check out for some time. I admit that I don't currently own a DVR, or an Apple TV, mostly because I don't watch a lot of television, and am somewhat allergic to app store prices for DRM-protected content (ask me about my iTunes movie download nightmare sometime). Anyway, I was able to catch up with these guys at the show. Billed as "Apple TV for the rest of us" LookeeTV is a desktop player that supports a goodly amount of free internet stream content, both audio and video related.

iFrogz at CES - New audio gear and cases coming!

image

iFrogz is one of my fav brand of accessory products, mostly because they incorporate clever and stylish designs that are rather well-made. They introduced several new items for CES, and I got at least the 50 cent tour, so let's take a quick look...

Desktop coolness at CES - Steel Space puts you in command!

image

Ok, this is just cool as heck, so I had to post up on it (not really iPhone related). In my opinion, it's the first step in the process that results in us finally being enslaved into the Matrix. It may look like a spacechip command console or even a game accessory (which would be a bit cooler), but I assure you it is neither. Welcome to the cubicle of tomorrow, and wow do I want one (or maybe I don't)!

Clarity One at CES - Clear sounding earbuds!

image

Went to the Clarity One booth to check out the audio gear, which turned out to be one model of earbud (EB-110). They had some mock-up headphones to be released later this year, but that was it. Ok, no problem I say. Slogged all the way over here for an earbud, but let me have your best shot! Puresound has created a pretty remarkable audio processing mojo with a clearness that might convince you to buy a $129 set of earbuds at that.

inCarBite at CES - Awesome case and mount options for iPad!

image

Lots of vendors here at CES are showing off their latest case products. Same thing goes for iPad mounts for home, office and even in-car gear. Some vendors offer both, but I have yet to find any that integrate and offer the flexibility found in inCarBite's line of mounting and case gear. You can mount your iPad on the headrest of your car to keep the kids quiet during the ride home, eject the case (and iPad), and then mount into a dock bolted under your kitchen cabinet to enjoy your favorite show while making dinner!

Hello from CES - Thanks TruConnect!

image

As my first post from CES (currently lounging in one of the upper-level meeting rooms after slogging around the South Hall lower level). I need to give props to the folks at TruConnect who made this post possible. They were the first vendor on the list, so that I could test out their mobile network services under field conditions here at the show. The Mifi hotspot is not only providing me this convenient connection, but their 3G pay-as-you-go service is perfect for a convenient travel connection like this.

What I played this week - TapTalpa.HD and CubeSieger

image

This week I played 2 very different games, and wanted to get this posted up before the madness of CES begins in earnest. Several iPhoneLife personnel, including yours truly, will be stalking the show floor again this year, so if you happen to see one of us, come and say hi (look for the iPhoneLife patch). The first game is a $1.99 version of Whac-a-mole called TapTalpa, and the other is an interesting abstract board game called CubeSieger (lite versions available). They are both a little odd-ball, and I have to admit that at least one of them needs more work before it deserves to cost $1.99 on the app store.
