How Do I Send a Photo in a Text Message?

We've already gone over basics like how to send a text message, and how to make a call from a text message; now it's time to learn how to send pictures in your text messages. There are two ways to take a photo and send it via text message, either directly from your iPhone's Photos app, or straight from the Messages app. Let's get started learning how to send images from either app.

The first method we'll go over for sending pictures from your iPhone is to do so directly from the Photos app. To get started:

  1. Open the Photos app, tap on the Photos tab at the bottom of your screen, then tap the pictures and videos you'd like to text.
  2. Tap the Share button at the lower left of your screen.

  3. Your iPhone will give you an option to send the picture to a frequently texted contact by selecting from the menu under the photo, or to tap Messages and choose another recipient.
  4. With either option, you'll have the option to add text underneath your photo before tapping the Send icon to send your message.

Text Message a Picture or Image from the Messages App

It's also possible to text a photo directly from your iPhone's Messages app. To send your image:

  1. Open the Messages app and tap a conversation or the New Message button at the upper-right of your display.
  2. For new messages, enter the name or phone number of the person you'd like to send a picture to
  3. Tap the Camera icon or the Photos icon to either take a new picture or choose a photo you've already taken.

  4. If you've chosen one or more photos from your Camera Roll, tap Choose once you've tapped on and picked the one(s) you want to send.
  5. Now you can add additional text under the photo you've taken or chosen, or send only the picture by tapping the Send arrow.
