All iOS devices will automatically rotate their screen orientation depending on how you’re holding them. Sometimes, though, you don’t want the screen to rotate. Maybe you’re reading in bed with your iPad, and every time you change your position to get comfortable, the iPad’s screen spasms between horizontal and vertical viewing modes. Fortunately, you lock screen rotation on any iOS device. Here’s how to do it:
- Rotate your device until the screen is in the desired orientation.
- Double-click the Home button to display the multitasking bar at the bottom of the screen. This shows the apps you’ve recently used.
- Flick the multitasking bar from left to right until it displays the iPod controls as shown at right.
- Tap on the screen rotation icon to the left of the iPod controls. A small image of a lock will appear inside the screen rotation icon, indicating that the screen orientation is locked.
