What to do with your old iStuff?

image

The odds are pretty good that you got some new Apple gear this holiday season. Apple refreshed their iPhone and iPad product line, and you might need to make room for those new purchases. Companies like SellYourMac are always there to buy up your old Apple gear, and now, for the holidays, they are adding a bonus $20 on trades worth $25 or more, using code Holiday2014. That's almost like doubling your money for that old iPod nano that you don't use any more!

Trying to Decide if You Want a Short or Long Cable? Get Both with CordCruncher!

image

I recently added a new car stereo and it comes with a USB port for charging and music playback. I love it because the sound quality is better than Bluetooth, and I can keep my iPhone charged while on long trips. I have been on the lookout for the right sized cable that's not too long and not too short. The last thing I want in the car is a a forty-inch cable interfering with driving.

The Real Cost of an iPhone

image

Think the iPhone 6 costs $199? According to a new report, the real "cost" of an iPhone should be for the next model up, the $299 64GB iPhone. They claim that, increasingly, a 16GB iPhone is almost unusable. While that's not exactly true, it is correct that iOS consumes a fair chunk of the 16GB, leaving more like 12GB available. While competitors, like Windows Phone, use a lot more, it still limits the capability of that entry level model. Apple's own apps like Pages, Numbers and more are not part of iOS, and will take up part of that 16GB. Music, photos, videos, text messages (including photos and videos) and more increasingly make a 16GB model impractical. Let's not even discuss the 8GB iPhone 5c.

Do Away With Your Wallet With the SAFE Wallet Case

image

If you bought an iPhone 6 Plus, you probably have enough to carry around, so wouldn't it be nice if you didn't need to carry a separate wallet? After all, you can use Apple Pay to pay for many purchases, and for those times when you need a photo ID or traditional credit card, a fullsize wallet would be overkill. The folks at BulletTrain had a case for the iPhone 5 that doubled as a wallet, and now they are using Kickstarter to fund an iPhone 6 Plus version.

Rumor: Apple to Bring Out New 4-Inch iPhone in 2015

image

A rumor keeps popping up that Apple may be developing a new 4-inch iPhone that it will launch next year alongside its larger brethren. According to a post on AppleInsider, which cites a market analyst with sources in Apple's supply chain, the phone may be called the iPhone 6s mini and have the same styling as the current iPhone 6 models, such as curved screen edges. It would take its place of the low end of Apple's offerings, replacing the iPhone 5c. And I'm guessing also the iPhone 5s. It's also rumored that Apple will use low-cost components from Qualcomm to keep the costs down.

Holiday Crunch Time: Last Minute Deals

image

Forget Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Those days are in the past. It is now the week of Christmas and any hopes of getting a gift in time require either spending a fortune in shipping, buying a virtual gift online, or, my preference, buying local. If I needed a reminder of this, all I had to do was look at my inbox this morning. While it's normally full of app review requests, today I saw a ton of "Last Chance" emails!

Apple Pay Off to Strong Start, Has More Active New Users Than PayPal

image

All indications are that iPhone 6 users love Apple Pay, finding it both convenient and secure. In fact, new users of Apple Pay use the service approximately three times more frequently than new PayPal users, according to a report by ITG Investment Research. Their analysis found that "60 percent of new Apple Pay customers used Apple Pay on multiple days through November, suggesting strong customer engagement. In comparison, New PayPal customers used the service on multiple days during the same time period just 20 percent of the time." The top five locations where people used Apple Pay in the first six weeks of its availability were Whole Foods, Walgreens, McDonalds, Panera Bread, and Subway.

As our kids get older, their wish lists seem to get smaller and more expensive. No more asking for Barbie dolls and Matchbox cars—we're on to iPads, iPhones, and Bluetooth accessories.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
