PhotoBlasting: Practical Applications

image

PhotoBlasting is the term I use for taking a picture with your iPhone and sending it via e-mail. In my last post I wrote about blasting off a photo to slightly tweak a White Sox fan. I got an out-of-office reply, so the effect wasn't as immediate as I hoped it would be. I'll have to settle for a delayed reaction.

iPhone PhotoBlasting: Who Are Your Innocent Victims?

I've got some Chicago White Sox fans in a fix. My Cubs-fan neighbor let me buy some of his long-time Wrigley Field season tickets. The neighbor wasn't interested in seeing American League teams – as if his Cubs will ever see an AL team when it really counts, in October – so he gave me my choice of interleague games.

I scooped up three to see the Cubs vs. Twins for a Sunday afternoon. My friend and his son are both big-time Sox fans, which in this city (Chicago) usually means they're major Cubs-haters.

Day One - I have so much to tell you about kid apps

The reason there is so much to say is that this is my first post and we are twenty or thirty apps in on the iPhone/iPod migration into our lives via our 5.5 year old boy, Johan. We started out with some games on my iPhone but soon found that I was losing the thing to the kid most of the time and so we got the iPod touch to give me MY toy back.

I would have to do about 20 posts to get you up to speed with where we are... Maybe you can get a lot of that out of my upcoming article in the next issue of iPhone Life.

iTunes 8.1 released, plus new App Store review system

Apple just released (within the past half hour) iTunes 8.1 and it seems to be "zippier".

They also have a new system for App Store reviews, where you can filter reviews by a particular version.

The primary enhancements for iTunes 8.1 relate to the new iPod Shuffle, introduced today, but there are quite a few other new features.  Here's the Readme:

NPR on the iPhone using PublicRadio and NPR Mobile

image

I have been a iphone radio user (my list of radio apps) since AOL radio first came out.  I tend to use the digital radio just as often as I use the iPod feature. Missing however was public radio from AOL.  Well, that has been sorted.  Now, NPR Mobile has been out for a bit, but it lacked live streaming.

Hotmail Now A Reality For iPhone Users

With Microsoft's recent announcement of POP access to its popular Hotmail email service, iPhone users can finally begin getting their email with the built in client software.

Setting up your Hotmail account is simple on the iPhone since it retrieves all of the correct settings automatically so your email will be up and running in mere minutes.

Youtube not working for you? How to play youtube videos on the iphone using a simple workaround

Yesterday I wrote about a FAIL where movies for many iphone users are not playing. I do not have a the full answer as to why it’s not working, although it seems that the .flv (flash version) of the video is playing instead of the h.264 (apple version).   As of this writing, it still does not work for me; even after a few reboots.  However, I did find a way to get video to work.

iPhone still winning mindshare

An interesting short article on Silicon Alley Insider uses Google Trends to show how the iPhone continues to win the mindshare war among smartphone users. None of the other models are even close. Android is barely a blip.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
