Firmware Review - The new Apple iOS 4.1 on the 3GS

How is the new Apple iOS 4.1 Firmware Update working on my 3GS?

iOS 4.1 -- new features include HDR photos

image

At last week's event Steve Jobs gave previews of iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2. The former updates the software for the iPhone and iPod touch, and the latter, to be available in November, will upgrade the iPad, and the three devices (iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad) will use the same software. TidBITs has a helpful short article on the new update, and describes new features such as high dynamic range photos (HDR) and Game Center. HDR sounds pretty amazing.

Make a fashion statement with the Beetle case

image

Are you looking for more color on your iPhone 4 cases? Check out the Beetle.

Beetle cases are available in plenty of awesome colors like red/white, purple/hot pink, black/blue and black/yellow. You can even suggest a color scheme if you don’t see you like!

The Beetle is slim and weighs almost nothing. It has a shock absorbing liner to provide protection, and allows easy access to the camera and all the iPhone controls.

Why I won’t use the Ballistic HC iPhone 4 Case:

The Ballistic HC case for the iPhone is too tough for me! This is the extreme case for the extreme user. Are you a rock climber? A mechanic? A skydiver? Then, this is the case for you!

Review: RichardSolo USB Power Station for iPad / iPhone

image

When you talk about extra power as it relates to your iPhone or iPod Touch, there is a good chance that you heard the name RichardSolo. We have covered and reviewed various power packs here at iPhone Life that RichardSolo has created. But what about that extra power for the iPad? You may not have thought about that since the iPad has long lasting power, but what about the times that you can’t get to that plug? Maybe you are traveling and have various flights to take? Maybe your power is out and you need access to your iPad 3G? There are lots of maybes we could discuss. I contacted RichardSolo to see what they were doing for the iPad.

Netflix streaming movies app now available for iPhone and iPod touch

image

When the iPad was launched, one of the cool apps initially available was one from Netflix that let you stream movies to your iPad. Late last month the Netflix app was also released for the iPhone and iPod touch. Netflix's streaming movie service has been skyrocketing in popularity, so it's great to see these apps becoming available.

Ping, is not ready for prime time yet!

Ping is very confusing for some people, so here's my explanation and the way I see it.

XtremeMac Duo and XtremeMac Auto for iPad

image

I love the XtremeMac line of products. I carry my iPad around in the XtremeMac Nylon Sleeve, which is sturdy, lightweight and protects my iPad extremely well.

Now, I’m using two more XtremeMac products: the InCharge Duo and InCharge Auto for iPad. These are both quality products and, better yet, they make my life simpler!

Top Gun 2 Review

image

Top Gun 2 sports slick graphic upgrades and loses the "Danger Zone" warning grid of the original game. The guitar riffs in the background tune (from the original soundtrack), are shredded bliss for a shoot-em-up game like this. I just let it loop for awhile just to soak in the 80's nostalgia! The in-game music was not as good as the original, but still contains enough varied and flavorful high-octane guitar shredding to suit my taste. The flight physics are still not really much different than the first game (you just tilt the plane around the screen avoiding gunfire and missiles coming at you).

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
