Verizon users: Welcome to iTunes. Welcome to Chaos

image

Today, millions of new users are joining the iOS ecosystem, thank to the Verizon iPhone, and for many it will be there first introduction to iTunes and the App Store.  Those of us who have lived with an iPhone for years take many things for granted, but I thought I'd point out some of the idiosyncrasies in iTunes for our new friends.

Dual Releases XPS150-Bluetooth GPS Receiver

image

Dual recently released a Bluetooth GPS receiver for iOS devices called the XGPS150. I have to admit that it looks kind of neat. I sent their media contacts a request to test drive that puppy, so we will see if I get a response.

If you recall from a post a while back though, I was placed on the list for their original  iPod Touch GPS Receiver.

Challenging the Iphone’s dominance: Microsoft-Nokia, Sony-Google, but what about Nintendo?

image

Over a week where reports of Ipad 2G have been intensifying, it is also a stark reminder of Apple’s overwhelming dominance that news of an Iphone jailbreaking breakthrough (pun intended) of the iOS 4.2.1 has probably generated more forum interest than any of Nokia’s products in the past 6 months.

As I have written before on my blogpost 29 Dec 2010,

“Typically it seems that during their developmental process, Apple usually identifies 1 feature that would be game-

Will the iPhone 5 be a World Phone?

image

The folks over at iFixit have been tearing apart the insides of the new Verizon iPhone, and they found that it has a Qualcomm dual-mode GSM/CDMA chip, meaning the iPhone could work anywhere in the world with many different types of carriers. iFixit says that "Apple could have supported GSM" networks such as T-mobile and AT&T with this phone. They didn't, but could they be holding out for the iPhone 5?

Verizon iPhone uses different parts and accessories

image

As you may have seen in the reports about the new Verizon iPhone, it's mostly the same as AT&T's iPhone 4, but with one exception: the antenna has been redesigned. Because of this, many cases for the iPhone 4 from AT&T won't fit the Verizon iPhone. And DirectFix.com is reporting that parts for the Verizon iPhone are different from those of the AT&T phone. This even includes parts such as the back cover and the battery.

Review: Treasure Seekers 2 The Enchanted Canvases by G5 Entertainment

image

Since I’ve started playing hidden object games I’ve noticed that they have become less about searching a room for a bunch of objects and more about being like an adventure game.  You often need to find an object to be used somewhere else, there are mini-games to be solved to unlock objects or rooms in the game, and you even have dialogs with other people in the game.  The focus tends to be around people searching for their parents, grandparents, or kids, so the original Treasure Seekers was a nice change of pace in that it revolved around a younger child trying to find her brother (and then looking for a treasure, of course).  Now the kids have grown up, but the premise hasn’t changed – sister must find brother, and together they’ll seek the Philosopher’s Stone.  Turns out it’s still as interesting this time around, and the more balanced mini-games make for an overall more pleasant experience.

iControlPad to be Released Soon, Gamers to Suddenly Have Less Free Time

image

The iControlPad is an iPhone accessory of near-mythical proportions - it's been in development for nearly two years. Multiple delays have plagued the product, but at last, iOS gamers can breathe a collective sigh of relief, as the device's creator, @craigix, has announced that orders are finally going to be taken this weekend. For anyone who hasn't heard of the iControlPad, please avert your eyes to the picture attached to this article. After soaking in the beauty of what your retinas have just observed, read on.

2 Cool New Cases for iPod touch!

image

Becoming quite the case snob recently... This week I have found 2 great cases for iPod touch (though the iMainGoX shown works also with iPhone, most MP3 or similar devices and not exactly new). The other is the new Trident Aegis series case for iPod (shown below), which I like a lot. Wasn't sure what to think of the iMainGoX with it's bulky, zippered, hardshell design that includes a small stereo speaker set mounted on one side, until I heard  the speakers. Cool, would aptly describe it...

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
