Game Centered: Top 10 Gaming Headphones for iOS

image

Welcome to Game Centered. Usually our Game Centered column focuses on iOS gaming apps, however this time we're taking a slightly different tack and focusing on iOS gaming gear, specifically exceptional headphones for iOS gaming. This roundup has been a long time coming. Over my years writing for iPhone Life magazine I've gotten hip to many great headphones, but only a handful would I consider optimal for the iOS gaming environment, as many factors go into making a pair of headphones optimal for the core gamer. The headphones featured here all fit that bill and address the fact that more and more core gamers are looking to their iOS devices to provide their gaming fix. It's rare that I come across reviews or roundups that focus on great gaming gear solely for the iOS gamer, and this aims to do just that. So if you are an avid, core gamer who loves playing on iOS, this one's for you!

Battery Case Review - Thinner uNu DX packs in the power!

image

The DX-FREE ($69.99) from uNu Electronics is a 2400mAh external battery case that is surprisingly thin and light. The two-piece construction gives superior protection that is practically seamless once installed. So much so that I almost couldn't uninstall it!

Indie Project Corner - Super Thin Libre Is a Bluetooth Keyboard for Everyone (Part 2)!

image

This is Part 2 of a two-part Indie Project Corner featuring the Libre wireless keyboard from Casestudi (see Part 1 here). In part 1, we queried Peter Ho (Casestudi Founder) on the gory specifics about his fancy new thin keyboard that works with PC, Android or iOS! In this part, we actually kick the tires (or kick the Libre, as it were) on this spotlighted Kickstarter effort!

Apple Pay Makes Inroads

image

Apple Pay has done quite well by any standard, but until now it had not been officially accepted at Best Buy nor had Discover supported it with its cards. The momentum behind Apple Pay is strong, though, and those barriers have been or are about to be broken. AppleInsider reports that Discover Card announced that it will support Apple Pay and in an analyst call, Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that Best Buy customers will be able to use Apple Pay at its terminals later this year.

Indie Project Corner - Super Thin Libre Is a Bluetooth Keyboard for Everyone (Part 1)!

image

This is the second edition of the Indie Project Corner, where we highlight the coolest new crowdfunded projects; and this time we have selected the Libre Keyboard from Casestudi for our project spotlight. Peter Ho, Casestudi Founder, thinks we need a thinline, wireless backlit keyboard that is both affordable and universal (and I agree). He designed his own multi-OS-compatible Bluetooth keyboard and funded it on Kickstarter, and is now headed for stretch goals.

I had the opportunity to try LifeProof frē Case ($79.99). LifeProof also makes a more expensive nüüd line which does not use a screen protector yet manages to be waterproof just the same.

We had a few minutes to preview the latest Pelican cases at CES this year, but really only a glance. We wanted to make sure we circled back and provided full reviews now that Pelican was able to send out some samples. We recently received both a Pro Gear Protector (starts at $29.99) and Voyager (starts at $37.49) series case for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and we can confirm that these new cases provide the serious protection you want if you are dragging your device around with you everywhere. They also come with a lifetime guarantee!

Forthcoming iPhones May Use New Aluminum Alloy, Multi-Aperture Camera

image

When Tim Cook introduced the new Apple Watch, he highlighted the new aluminum alloy in the Apple Watch Sport. He said this alloy is very light, yet is 60 percent stronger than standard alloys. Now 9To5Mac is passing along a rumor from a Chinese website that the next iPhone will also use this new aluminum alloy. Also, a great article on Computerworld talks about the amazing step up in quality Apple's next cameras will take thanks to their purchase of an Israeli company. It seems unlikely to me that these new camera features would appear this year, but is highly likely we'll see them in the next year or two.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
