There's no shortage of interesting and cool accessories available for our iDevices. In fact, with so many great gadgets continually coming out, it's challenging to stay on top of all the new releases to decide what's best for you. With that in mind, the Gear Up! series aims to present you with the best of the best new iDevice products on the market.

Luxi Light Meter and Other Add-On Sensors for Your iPhone

image

Your iPhone is a fairly powerful computer, and increasingly, accessory makers are inventing add-ons that let you use your iPhone for functions you might not have imagined.

1. Luxi ($24.95)

A good example of this is Luxi, an add-on that lets you use your iPhone as a light meter, a device that typically costs several hundred dollars.

New and Updated Apps — Pulse, Album Share, Blitz Brigade

image

1. Pulse (Free)

My favorite news aggregate app just received a welcomed update this week. The new version of Pulse makes sharing articles even easier and simpler.

In the previous versions of the Pulse app, you could share with Facebook and Twitter as well as via email, one at a time. Now, however, after LinkedIn's recent purchase of Pulse, you have the added ability to share articles via LinkedIn, or with all three social networks with just a couple of taps. In addition to adding the sharing feature, the new update also allows for sharing via SMS. Now sharing via Pulse couldn't be easier or more comprehensive.

AT&T Launches Trade-In Program for Your Old Smartphone

image

If you're looking to buy a new iPhone, you may want to take advantage of AT&T's new trade-in promotion launched earlier this month. If your smartphone is in working order, and you purchased it within the last three years, AT&T will give you at least $100 for it. You can use its trade-in calculator to see how much you'll get for your old phone. It also will take feature phones in trade, but may give less than $100 for them. You can also trade in tablets and netbooks. AT&T will give you an AT&T Promotion Card good for purchasing products and services, or, if you wish, you can donate the value to Cell Phones for Soldiers. According to the promotion, "working order" means the phone can be turned on and off, the screen works, the phone has no damage, and the battery can be recharged.

Take Better iPhone Pictures with Remote Shutter & Gradients Apps

image

Taking great shots on your iPhone just got easier with two great freebies recently added to the App Store. Remote Shutter allows you to view/take remote shots through any WiFi or Bluetooth paired set of iOS devices, and Gradients will let you apply your own custom filters to create photographic art!

1. Remote Shutter (Free)

Remote Shutter is a technology-binding application that greatly extends the coolness of owning multiple iOS devices. It allows you to remotely control the shutter/camera of an iOS device through a wireless network. You can see the live camera view, take pictures, and also configure the countdown timer to take a delayed shot of up to 30 seconds.

Meze 88 Classics: High-End Ebony Headphones for the Discerning Audiophile

image

A great pair of high performance headphones is a key ingredient in how we experience our iDevices. Many apps even suggest using headphones to help you immerse in apps and music. Because I'm aware of how much quality headphones can enhance our iDevice experience, I often review headphones of all different styles and quality for iPhone Life readers. In this series for the discerning audiophile, I will review several new and noteworthy entries in the extremely crowded headphone market.

The first pair of headphones I'd like to introduce you to is the Meze 88 Classics ($309). Mezes are the Lamborghini of headphones, exuding style and quality, both rare and luxurious. The Meze 88 Classics are some of the best headphones I have come across in a good while; one any music aficionado should know about.

OGIO Debuts New Line of Fashionable, Functional Tech Backpacks

image

I first came in contact with OGIO gear as an off-road motorcycling enthusiast. I loved the products for their quality construction and design integrity.

OGIO’s new 2013 lineup of tech-friendly bags met all of my expectations of the company, fusing durability and water resistance with contemporary urban style. Of particular interest to any iDevice owner is the NEWT series of backpacks and messengers. OGIO designed these bags to carry the iPad, iPhone and MacBook safely, without having to tote a heavy, cumbersome pack.

iPhone Coming to U.S. Cellular Later This Year

image

U.S. Cellular announced Friday that it will start carrying the iPhone later this year. The carrier didn't say when, which models, or how much it would cost. Apple just keeps extending its reach.

In addition to the four major carriers and U.S. Cellular, the iPhone also is available from Cricket, Virgin Mobile, and WalMart's Straight Talk. It has yet to make an appearance on the prepaid carriers MetroPCS and Boost Mobile, with rumors suggesting the latter will get the iPhone later this year.

Apple Making Big Mistakes — How Will it Affect iPhone App Developers?

image

Apple has gone through a number of ups and downs during the last three decades. The company has invented the most inspiring products, and it has launched quite a few products doomed to fail right from the start. But the success of the iPhone and iPad catapulted Apple to number one in the tech market. Steve Jobs' unique style of leadership and showmanship was the foundation on which the edifice of Apple's success rested.

But after Jobs' left the company, signs of decay began to appear: this is not to say Apple is not creating good products. The company is easily the best when it comes to creating premium smartphones and tablets.

Everything iPhone - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

The iPhone has become a benchmark for all other smartphones to compete with.  Reviews on the cases, accessories, apps, wallpapers and more are located below.  Here are a couple of Articles that showcase what we have to offer.  For eaxample, iPhone 4S by Alex Cequea (iPhone Life Magazine Editor in Chief).

In that article, Alex says that the iPhone 4S has the exact same physical form factor as the iPhone 4. However, the insides are a whole different story, and Apple tried to make that very clear. The most notable improvements are the 8MP camera with 1080p video recording, the A5 dual-core processor (same as the iPad 2), and an improved battery life (8 hours of 3G talk time, 200 hours of standby). As far as the capabilities, the new Siri Assistant feature was the highlight of the show. The Siri Assistant recognizes natural language and can answer questions such as, "What's the temperature out today?" Combined with the phone's GPS, you can say something like, "Remind me to call my wife when I get to work." The Assistant will not only know who your "wife" is, it'll also know where "work" is and pop up a reminder to "call Marcy" when you get there."

Here's another great article, The Best iPhone 4 Cases. This article goes on to explain that like its iPhone predecessors, cases have become one of the most popular ways to accessorize your cell phone. Most cell phone consumers buy a case bundled with their new phone to protect it from day one. And who can blame them? Mobile devices have become hugely valuable and expensive items; you want to protect them the best way you can. There are literally hundreds of cases on the market. Let's examine the different options available on the market to help you choose the one that's right for you.

What to know how to create your own app?  "The first step in creating an app is to understand what you want to create and how you will measure its success. Make sure the idea is well vetted and there is a solid business case behind it. There are roughly 600 new apps submitted to Apple each day—what is going to differentiate your app from the thousands that are already available and being launched each week? Here are some questions you’ll want to ask when getting your app idea..."
