The photo canvas app is a very simple app which allows you to take pictures with your iPhone and send them to this company to be printed on high quality canvas and shipped to you. With the newer iPhone 4 and 4s the camera is able to take high resolution pictures and since people have their phone with them all the time, this is how many people are taking most of their pictures. Unfortunately that used to mean that it was difficult to move the pictures over to your computer, edit them and have them printed professionally.
Generally I prefer my games to have a somewhat compelling set of goals, but there are times when I do enjoy the simple pleasure of mass destruction. Still, while I figured Reckless Getaway would be fun, I was pretty much expecting it to be a “few minutes here, few minutes there” sort of game. Turns out I’ve become quite addicted to this little gem. With it’s over the top… well, everything it feels like you’re in control of a chase scene stolen from a John Woo film. About the only thing I wish at this point is that there were a variety of cars to choose from, but otherwise it’s a nearly perfect no holds barred racer.
Fat jump pro is a fun game which has you playing a small green character who starts out at the bottom of the screen, and has to jump from bouncy platform to bouncy platform without falling. While this does sound like many other games, this one has quite a few different unique additions to the game which have made it quite enjoyable and greatly adds to the length of time it can be enjoyed.
Petri-Dash is one of the new generation of “dodge everything” games that realizes a game can always use something more to do than just dodge things. In this case you are some sort of sub-species that lives in a Petri dish, and all you want to do is survive. In order to do that you’ll either have to dodge all the other organisms or take them on in a battle of butting heads in order to dominate the dish. Everything comes at a cost, however, and in this case you are constantly losing life just by swimming around. You are also weakened if you collide with another organism without dashing them. When your life is spent is back to the primordial pond for you. You can collect energy pellets to refuel your health, and there are also little versions of yourself that will attach to you when you run them over and give you bonus multipliers to your score. You lose these friends when you hit one of the bad guys.
At a certain point, probably around $100, any set of headphones is going to be just fine for the majority of listeners. So at that point, it comes down to quality, comfort, style, colors, and branding. And if the House of Marley, founded by the legendary Bob Marley's family, has anything to say about it, a manufacturer's ecological footprint and philanthropic efforts should also be considered.
The angry boo app is a game where you have to shoot a ghost to different platforms using a slingshot like launcher. This is similar to Angry Birds, but without the end goal of having to knock down anything or kill any enemies. Moving from platform to platform without falling to the ground is the main aspect of the game. Each platform is a spider web, which you then pull down to ‘shoot’ the ghost on to the next web. Collecting gold coins while navigating through each level is another important part of the game, earning more points for each gold coin collected.
I have nothing against progress, and in fact I’m thrilled whenever someone interjects a cool new mechanic into the genres I love. The truth is, however, that truly original ideas are almost nonexistent these days. So if I can’t have something new and dazzling I’m perfectly content with a solid game that takes old school concepts and implements them well, and that’s exactly what Terra Noctis from Bulkypix does. The story is silly and mostly superfluous, the levels are familiar yet well designed, and money has morphed from coins to fairies, but in the end the most important thing is that it’s simply a whole lot of fun.
The Marblez is a new app which is similar to the bejeweled but with some interesting twists. First, rather than jewels the game uses different colored marbles. There are two different modes of play, classic and action. One of them allows you to advance up in levels while the other just gets progressively more difficult as you continue to play. The object of the game is to get three or more marbles of the same color lined up horizontally. When this happens, they disappear. To line them up you simply slide each of five columns of marbles up and down.
Zombies are everywhere. Somehow they’ve become the “it girl” of monsters and the app store is positively infested with them. GOGN Entertainment recently launched their take on good-game-plus-zombies, Zombie: The Rescue, and I have to say, this zombie filled casual puzzler is a winner.
The Avas flowers app is, to my knowledge, unique on the app store in selling flowers and flower delivery to people in any area of the country, all from their smart phone. When first downloading the app I was skeptical about how effective it would be to view and purchase flowers on my phone but I was very pleasantly surprised about how easy it really was. Avas clearly took the time and money necessary to make a best in class app.
