I’ve primarily stuck to reviews of games in the past, because that’s mostly what I do with my iPod Touch. However, I have been a comic book fan for a long time, and when I got the chance to review this cool looking “3D” comic book, I jumped on it. To its credit, the book is pretty cool. However, I think the 3D aspect of it is more gimmicky than practical or useful. Still, to get an 84 page full color graphic novel for under $6 these days is a pretty good deal, and having it narrated thanks to its electronic format is a cool bonus. If you’re really hoping for some slam-bang 3D effects you’re not going to be so impressed, but if you just want a decent story, slick 2D illustrations, and good voice work (at your discretion), The Gwaii is a solid choice for you.
From what little I know about Cave, they’re pretty famous for make excellent games that fall under the category of “bullet hell” scrolling shooters. Bug Panic is certainly a far cry from that style of game play. That doesn’t make it any less challenging, mind you, and actually goes to show that Cave is more than a one trick pony. More importantly, it’s actually a nice change of pace from the typical dual stick shooter, which is the category it actually falls into. The anime style cut scenes and overall cuteness might night be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re looking for a challenging dual stick shooter that doesn’t just feel like a clone of the rest, Bug Panic is a good choice for you.
The Flaming Igloo game is a fairly enjoyable yet challenging game. The basic premise is you have to put out fires on your igloo by throwing snow balls at it. If the fire goes on to long you’ll have to throw a large piece of ice at the igloo to fix it. The makers of this game did a good job with the physics of the game making it challenging to throw the ice or snow at the right spot on the igloo. There are many levels which get more challenging as you go and add in additional options.
Speakal has some of the more interesting audio products available for iPhone, and iPod. I have written about several on our blogs, and in terms of quality, have found them a decent product for the price. Maybe not in the same class as say the Sonos or iHome audio products like the iW1 we've reviewed, but they still produce a good sound. Speakal has the market nearly cornered in unique and eye-catching designs with clever features (see my review of the motion-sensing, rechargeable iPig). If you want a sound dock that simply looks good, sounds good, and doesn't break the bank, the iKurv is a good pick--which, by the way, will also push composite video from your iPod/iPhone to a TV or monitor.
There are millions of protective apps that are on the market, but only a few of them are actually effective. Master Key – Lock, Protect, and Manage Your Info is an app that provides exactly what it states. Since digital has become the way of life; passwords, pin codes, credit cards, passport information, and many other things vital to know. But, you can’t be expected to remember it all! This is why storing it somewhere without fear of it being seen is very important.
At first I thought Smart Words was just another scrabble clone but after reading through the scoring instructions and playing a couple games I realized it’s actually quite a bit different and has a lot of fun improvements. The scoring seemed a lot more complex at first because you get a multiplayer bonus for each syllable your word has. In addition, unlike scrabble, you can use proper nouns and you have nine tiles in your tray so you can often make much longer and more complex words. To allow this, the game board is also quite a bit bigger.
Since 2005 (the initial debut of the first version), I've dedicated several articles to the alternative Web browser Opera Mini. Back in the Windows Mobile / Symbian S40...S60 / BlackBerry days, Opera Mini offered a viable and, in many respects, much better alternative to the built-in browsers of these operating systems – for example, on my Blackberry 8800, it was the only browser I ever used. On my more capable Windows Mobile and Nokia devices / phones, I also tended to prefer it to other, in general, clumsy and slow browsers.

The Head Finder app is a task management or schedule management app to help you organize all the different things you have to do. This app has a very simple user interface and it seems they designed all the most common functions to be done with as little tapping and typing as possible which is a real time saver. I’ve used several time management apps in the past and it always seemed like I was wasting more time entering my events and tasks into the app than I saved by being more organized. With Head Finder you can have a new task entered in less than thirty seconds with their quick three tap process to create a reminder.
