MyScript Calculator app wins Mobile App Showdown at CES 2013!!

image

I'll do a full post up on the Mobile App Showdown later, but wanted to get the word out that MyScript Calculator, an awesomely cool scratchpad-like calculation app (with handwriting recognition and the ability to solve equations) ran away with the MAS this year at CES. The app garnered oohs and aahs during the 4-minute pitch, and the applause-o-meter went off the chart as the crowd went wild for it at the end. If you grab one app this year, make it this seriously cool, award winning calculation app (currently FREE)!

Ever since high speed internet became widely available people have been trying to find ways to get their music for free.  While there have been dozens of different options over the years most of them have either been illegal or unreliable (or both!).  Today, however, you can get thousands of free songs, videos and even live concerts delivered directly to your iPhone, iPod or iPad quickly and easily.  The songs are completely free and 100% legal too!  This is possible by using the free music download pro app on your mobile device.

House of Marley Rocks CES 2013!

The House of Marley: Not just a brand, not just high quality gear, but a revolutionary lifestyle choice.

If you follow my articles, then you already know I am a big fan of House of Marley. Aside from the fact that House of Marley is spearheaded by Rohan Marley, son of one of the most influential artist of all time, Bob Marley, House of Marley is also a brand and company that is so enthusiastically focused on the quality and integrity of their product that it was an entirely refreshing experience for me to be able to visit with them at CES 2013 today here in Las Vegas.

My visit to the House of Marley station today at CES was an absolute joy. The House of Marley staff was both completely welcoming and extremely knowledgeable about their products and also, so enthusiastic about the latest additions to an already amazing line of gear. Theirs has been one of the most enjoyable booths I’ve had the pleasure of visiting at this year’s CES.

Customize your iPhone, with metallic prints from Chromaluxe

image
I'm a fan of aluminum photos. I have a nice family portrait printed direct on aluminum and it gets great feedback. Such prints resist fading, water damage, tears, etc., so I was excited to see the Chromaluxe cases for the iPhone 5 and 4/4S.

Review - iHome iW3 Wireless Speaker System

image

Back in 2011, I reviewed the iW1 when it first came out; an awesomely portable/rechargeable wireless speaker from iHome--portable, as in literally no wires--with an internal 2600 mAh Li-ion battery. The Wi-Fi setup was a bit sketchy, but I finally figured out a compromise by setting up a second Wi-Fi access point. Been looking forward to trying out one of the new iW3 models and got my hands on a review unit. The iW3 is like the iW1, but taller, lighter and easier to haul around the house. The sound quality is pretty close to what I remember from the iW1, and though it won't blow out a window, it will let you easily push quality music to any room in your home.

Game Review - Roach Smasher

image

Roach smasher is a simple yet fun game where, as the name implies, you have to smash roaches.  As the roaches run across your screen, you simply tap them to kill them.  The more you can kill the more points you can get.  To make the game more challenging, if you miss a roach you will tap the ice which they are crawling on.  After 20 misses, the ice cracks all the way through and your game is over.  Every time you play you can try to get a higher score than the last time.

Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim App Review

image

Majesty is a fun and unique simulation game where you play as the recently crowned king of a tiny fairytale kingdom.  Unlike other sim games, however, you don't control the action directly.  You can hire your hero's to do your bidding, but you have to make sure you have enough money to pay them or they won't follow your orders.  Managing your hero's happiness and ensuring that they are there to do what you want them to do is challenging, but then you also have to manage your time to ensure that the citizens of your fair kingdom can live and prosper.

Review: Mister Frog by Coconut Island Games

image

I never considered frogs to be a very popular subject for video games, but there really are quite a few games staring the lily pad bound amphibians and their desire to eat bugs.  Thankfully Mister Frog is a different beast altogether.  Yeah you’re still trying to collect bugs with the protagonist’s tongue, but there isn’t a lily pad anywhere to be seen in this game.  Plus, the actual game play mechanic is different than any I’ve come across in this sort of game to date.  This is another fine example of simple, fun and addictive blending seamlessly together to create a game that probably won’t get the recognition it deserves.

iPhone Reviews | iPhone Life Magazine

We have several iPhone reviews.  Articles like, iPhone Goes 3G,is one of many that gives you a more in depth look at Apple's products. Here are several iPhone reviews on past and current models.

"On July 11th, 2008, Apple and AT&T stores started selling the iPhone 3G, and over one million consumers bought one in the first three days, making this the hottest smart phone launch ever.  The 3G brings speed, assisted GPS, and a new low price to Apple's smart phone platform. And while the hardware has definitely been improved, it's the OS 2.0 and software suite that is truly revolutionary."

In iPhone 3G S and OS 3.0, we take a first look at the new 3G S. Resting in your hand, it looks pretty much like the 3G, but in this case, looks are deceiving. The iPhone 3G S sports a faster processor, better battery life, a 3 megapixel camera, enhanced 3D graphics, and a variety of other improvements.  Best of all, it's claimed to be twice as fast as the 3G.

We also reviewed the new OS 3.0 and software suite.  Apple added some nice features, including Cut & Paste capability, enhanced A2DPBluetooth that supports stereo headsets, an upgrade of SMS to full Multi MediaServices, improved search feature, landscape keyboard in Mail and other apps, and additional enhancements to Calendar, Contacts, iPod, and Safari.  Apple also added a new native app to the application suite.  VoiceMemo lets you capture and edit short audio recordings and e-mail or SMS them toa friend.

iPhone reviews: Apple began selling an unlocked versionof the iPhone 4S (iPhone Life Article Here). That means that you can use it with any carrier, andyou don't need to sign a contract.  Unlocked phones are a big advantage for frequent travelers. GSM is the most common standard abroad, and the whole cell phone business model is typically much different in other countries. No contracts, no subsidized phones. You simply buy a SIM card and put it in your phone. You can even buy SIM cards at kiosks in airports and on the street.
