I have played some offbeat games in my day, but Blork has to take the prize as one of the oddest, but also amongst the coolest (at least in terms of concept)! Not over the top on steroids cool, maybe, but understated cool at least! It's currently free in the App Store, so won't cost you a thing to experiment a bit if you want to try something a little different.
So far I’ve been pretty lucky with hidden object games on the iPhone. Most of them have had something different to offer from all the others. Of course I realize that’s because the genre hasn’t been oversaturated like certain other ones, but I’ll take it while I can get it. Mystery Of The Crystal Portal is no exception to the rule. In fact, in some ways this is one of the most original hidden object games I’ve played, iPhone or otherwise. It’s not without its shortcomings, but its strengths keep me coming back for more.
Gun Bros is now available on the App store... Looks like another awesome scroller/shooter game for the review queue. Reminds me of one of my current favs called BloodNGuns, which my daughter clued me in on.
Tap Disc is a a semi-quirky tap game featuring the challenge of rounding up bouncing and flying disks, but with the added twist of having to time and place your taps at just the right moment and screen spot. I warn would-be tappers that this game is not easy to master quickly (IMO), but presents unique, tap-elicious gameplay that is both pleasing to the eye, and engaging enough to keep you coming back for more. Read on for the full review...
Tilt to Live recently got an update that includes Game Center support and Retina-worthy graphics. You can grab the game (if you aren't already an addict) here. To learn more about this addictive and award winning game, see my Top App picks article here... I am loving the sharper game screens even as I write this. Shoot, no new power-ups though..! Well, it's rumored there might be another present in time for X-mas!
Like millions of you, I have downloaded, enjoyed and even finished all the levels of Angry Birds, at least so far... more levels, please! So what is a user to do? Sure, Chillingo (which EA is buying) has released another Angry Birds version for Halloween and you should definitely get that. And they also released Cut the Rope, another pick-up-and-play game with cute graphics. But it's not the same in terms of controls or even orientation (landscape versus portrait). Fortunately, with any successful app, there are other vendors stepping up to the plate.
I had the opportunity to play the PC version of Mushroom Age briefly at one point, but I actually jumped into it in the middle of the game to pass a section for someone. Now that I’ve had the chance to go back and play it from the beginning on my iPod Touch I’m finding that I really like the game. The story is quirky and keeps you wondering. The characters are amusing, especially when you get to talking to creatures you never thought you’d have a conversation with. The actual meat of the game is a combination of hidden objects, puzzle solving and mini-games. Overall it’s a well rounded package that delivers the goods quite well.
I was pretty shocked that no one has yet blogged here about the latest game app that has taken hold of my kids for the past few days and reportedly ‘sold 1 million apps in 10 days’.
Mani Golf is an interesting game. Some might consider it an overly simple golf game with whacked out courses. Personally, I look at it as a physics puzzle game under the guise of a whacked out golf game. Whatever your perspective is, there’s no question that Mani Golf is fun, crazy and at times quite challenging. You’ll not hear the word “fore” uttered from the main character’s mouth, but be prepared for some zany comments as you attempt to conquer 36 holes on two insane courses.
I will eventually get around to checking it out, but if you are into addictive, simple time-killers, Tap Disk looks like it might be a good one. Tap to collect flying disks and collect points and power-ups...Looks fun!
