Review: Treasures Of Montezuma 3 HD by Alawar Entertainment

image

It’s getting harder and harder to come up with original ideas for Match 3 games, but the Treasures Of Montezuma has a nice little twist with the concept of idols that are activated when you match that idol’s color on the playing board twice in a row.  I remember getting really addicted to the first installment once I figured out how the idols actually worked.  For some reason I missed out on part 2, but now I’ve got Treasures Of Montezuma 3 on my iPad, the addiction is back, and this could quite possibly be the best installment in the series yet.

Review: Zombie Crisis 3D by Kongzhong

image

I love zombie blasters, but there are enough of them out on the App Store that you might be wondering why I’m writing about one that’s over a year old.  Well, despite the fact that there have been some really slick alternatives released since this one came out back in November of 2010, Zombie Crisis 3D is still quite enjoyable.  In fact, I’d wager to say that it is probably the best of the series discounting Prologue, which really could have been just a couple of extra episodes tacked on to the original.  There’s just one small “feature” that I believe is new that’s really getting on my nerves…

Nukes iPhone App Review

image

Nukes is a fairly typical game in which you have to have careful timing to hit a moving object.  The layout has you controlling one 'world' at the bottom of the screen and than another world at the top.  When it is your turn to fire a nuke the enemy world at the top of the screen is spinning either clockwise or counter clockwise and you have to hit 'launch' to shoot your missal at one of the cities on the other world.  If you hit the city it removes one of the 'lives' of the enemy.  You get one shot, then the enemy gets one shot.

App Review: Murder Detective for iPhone

image

Murder detective is an interesting detective type game with quite an extensive story line.  The game play is similar to old school text based games but it has images to go with it and simple tap to choose your options.  The story seems a little bit to common in that a drunk cop with family problems has to solve a murder, but I suppose it is done so often because it works well.  The story line seems quite extensive, I've played for a couple hours now and it still seems to have quite a bit to go.

Review: The Secret of Chateau de Moreau by Four Thirty Three

image

So far the iOS platform has severed my adventure gaming needs well in terms of how the device can handle such games, yet while it’s not unheard of it’s still uncommon to find anything original in this department.  Thankfully there are a few developers who like to buck the trends, however, and as a result we get cool offerings like The Secret Of Chateau De Moreau.  Now I’ll warn you that the game often feels like a soap opera – albeit an interesting one – but if you look past that facet you’ll discover, murder, mystery, romance and a host of interesting characters.  I also like how the game strays from the normal adventure game convention when it comes to moving from room to room.

What I played this week - TapTalpa.HD and CubeSieger

image

This week I played 2 very different games, and wanted to get this posted up before the madness of CES begins in earnest. Several iPhoneLife personnel, including yours truly, will be stalking the show floor again this year, so if you happen to see one of us, come and say hi (look for the iPhoneLife patch). The first game is a $1.99 version of Whac-a-mole called TapTalpa, and the other is an interesting abstract board game called CubeSieger (lite versions available). They are both a little odd-ball, and I have to admit that at least one of them needs more work before it deserves to cost $1.99 on the app store.

Police Training on your iPhone

Coming soon to an iOS device near your face comes another tap shooter called Professional Police Trainer 2 (P.P.T.original here). You always wanted to draw down on a bad guy but let's face it, that would be scary. Plus you'd have to get up off the couch. Anyway, for all you crack shots of the P.P.T. realm, the updated version will be out soon, and you can get another taste of lawman adrenaline from the comfort of your Lazyboy! Draco The Dragon App Review

image

DRACO is a 2D top-down scroller shooter game. The app starts off with a good animation about the back-story of the game. The graphics and the music fit well into the game. After the intro video, the player, for the first time, will enter his or her own name. After which the player picks their hardness, color of their dragon and after a brief introduction to the controls is shown, the user can start the game.

The rules are fairly simple - avoid the oncoming dragons/obstacles & their fire/shots. Tilt the device in in either direction to move your dragon (tilt iPhone to the right, the dragon moves to the right, etc.) and tap the screen to shoot.

Burst! Time Kill for 2012!

image

Looking for a time killer physics game this New Year's Eve while waiting for the ball to drop? Check out Burst!... Pretty simple concept. Swipe to shoot arrows at balloons. Even a monkey could play Burst! Not only would he play it, but he would love it probably, and maybe get the top score on Game Center. The game has some kind of backstory and special play modes, but I mean really...who cares? Shoot the darn balloons and move along to the next level, right? The monkey does not care why... I make joke now, but nevermind. Read on for the full press release DL below...

Best iPhone Games | iPhone Life Magazine

When searching for the best iPhone games, you can get lost in companies propaganda.  Articles like Top Ten FavoriteiPhone Games, can help to alleviate the stress.  The following snippets from articles can help you to decide what kind of game is better suited for you.

"Stinger Games' newly launched Stinger FoosballLeague takes a game that's already a step removed from reality into a truly virtual environment - topping as one of the best iPhone games.  Foosball, of course, is the table version of football or soccer.  With Stinger Foosball League, the field that was crammed into a table in a pub is now in your iOS device.  The premise sounds okay, but the execution is way cooler than it sounds.  That's because Stinger Foosball League is actually, well, cooler than actual foosball.  First of all, the 3D graphics and game physics are right on, putting this game at the forefront of console-style graphics on iOS.  Second of all, the view when playing real life foosball is… usually not that awesome. I'm sure there are people with foosball tables that are tricked out, but for most of us, they're usually a dingy affair.  But Stinger Foosball League hasn't been sitting in your uncle's basement for the past forty years.  Kick-ass flying cameras show off how much action there really is in a game known for being low-tech. And just to make it even more trippy, the ball leaves behind a golden light tail, kind of a comet-effect."

"The Universe of SPIRIT FORCE was inspired from the Japanese Samurai-era.  Discover an epic story giving you a social experience where players fight with monsters and collect Spirit Cards in order to save the world.  It places a core emphasis on player vs. player combat.  The player begins his journey as a member of the SPIRIT FORCE.  Battle with other players or clear the mission to get great treasure and rare card. Use crafting skills with the collected treasures in order to summon new Spirits.  Players can team up with friends and cooperate each other to fight against boss, unlock new rewards and new stages.  The most immersive and massively multiplayer online card game ever!"

Both of the previous two articles are on specific games, but perhaps you want a more comprehensive look on several games... The Free iPhone Games To Kick Off Your Summer articleis what you are looking for.
