continues in their tradition of excellence with the new and improved Defender
series for the iPhone 5.
The new iPhone 5 is definitely the toughest iPhone version yet! That doesn't mean it can't be scuffed, scratched or get broken. To insure the safety and longevity of your iPhone 5 a good case can make all the difference, especially if you happen to be rough on your iPhone for any reason.
To the rescue comes the Otterbox Defender. Whether you are a bit clumsy by nature or a nature enthusiast by choice, from the city to the outback, the Otterbox Defender will give your iPhone 5 some of the best protection available.
Many of you are already familiar with the Otterbox Defender series. It's been one of the most popular and successful cases for the iPhone, widely available in major retail outlets around the world. And now, with the introduction of their newest Version of the Defender, Otterbox has improved upon what was already an excellent product.
I must admit, I hadn't heard about Cygnett
and their cases for the iPhone 4, but they sent me a variety to try on my new iPhone 5, and I'm sold! They offer a broad assortment of cases, from ultra slim to rugged multi-piece designs that will ensure protection. From the moment I opened my iPhone 5 box, when the suction from the packaging caused my new, naked iPhone 5 to be lifted up and promptly dropped, I was determined to keep my phone in a case!
That which makes something a “great deal” is very relative and subjective.
For instance, for the unrivaled security they provide, I would call the Lifeproof line of iDevice products a “deal”, even though they might be some of the pricier iDevice cases on the market. With regards to quality and protection, the old adage “You get what you pay for.” is often true, especially when it comes to products that claim to be durable and built to last.
When it comes to a quality manufacturer of iPad and laptop bags, you’d be hard pressed to find a better deal than a Copper River Bag. First of all, Copper River Bags come with a 100-year warranty! I guarantee you, not many companies would say such a thing about their product. This puts them in league with such reputable, top companies as Eddie Bauer, L.L. Bean, Leatherman and the handful of other manufacturers whose warranties extend throughout the life of their product.
Copper River Bags are nothing short of works of art. Practical, durable works of art mind you, but art nonetheless. Each bag is hand crafted here in America in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. Using rugged, full grain leather, each Copper River Bag is built to carry your devices and gadgets, now and for generations to come. Truly, if you decide to invest in a Copper River Bag, it is something that, barring any unforeseen natural disaster, you will likely find yourself leaving to a loved one in your will.
With the iPhone 5 comes the next wave of great new cases of all shapes, sizes, colors and prices. And I know that many of you will be eager to have a case for your new iPhone just as soon as possible!
One of the press releases I got today was for the Ballisitic line of cases. In particular, the Hard Core is one of the Ballistic cases that consisitently made my top 5 lists for Best Rugged Cases for the iPhone 4/4S. I expect similar standards of excellence in the new iPhone 5 version of the Hard Core. Read on for the press release and find out more about Ballistic's great line of protective cases.
Welcome to the latest in my review series. This time I’m taking on the new Incase Compact Backpack, putting it through my rugged testing and reporting back to you on my findings.
I really like the company Incase, I've reviewed their products in the past and have felt like they always make quality merchandise. So I was looking forward to trying out the latest Incase iDevice carrier, simply called the Compact Backpack.
This backpack definitely leans more towards the urban adventurer than the wilderness explorer (I'll also be reviewing some of the better rugged, heavier duty iDevice carrier bags too in the coming weeks so stay tuned.) but for the price and for the quality of craftsmanship for the student, business person or teacher to whom it's targeted, this pack is hard to beat!
It's time to ask more of your case. Sure, a case should protect your iPhone or iPad, but what if it could do more? What if it was made of a glow in the dark material so you could find it at night? What if it had an actual custom QR Code built in so someone could get in touch with you to return it, even if the battery ran out or the device was locked? And what if it could be used as a way to share your contact info similar to the Bump app?
There is undoubtedly no shortage of heavy-duty cases on the market, and I've tested most of them, under extreme circumstances. And to an extent, you do get what you pay for. However, you don't have to invest $40.00 or $50.00 and up for a good, protective iPhone case that will protect your iPhone from day to day hazards and abuse. These entry level, "heavy-duty" cases can fit anyone's budget, none costing more than $20.00.
$20.00 for a case that will protect your valuable iPhone against most drops and jolts that you are likely to encounter is not a bad deal at all. All three of these cases are pretty similar in their construction, so your decision would be more a matter of taste and personal preference than one of functionality and protection.
Each of these cases share certain good attributes, namely a silicone, shock absorbing skin encased within a rigid polycarbonate shell. None of these cases have integrated clear plastic screen protection, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, considering the great strength and durability of the built in Gorilla Glass touchscreen.
That said, meet my top three picks for most affordable, rugged protection cases.
I just took my iPad and iPhone out of my backpack...
Everything was safe and dry.
Why would I think this might be interesting news? Well, I'm known for testing accessories rather aggressively, and the good folks at booq just sent me one of their favorite laptop/tablet backpacks to test. So I promptly hopped on my off-road motorcycle and went for a ride in rocky terrain, during a rainstorm. So yes, the fact that everything was safe and dry was good news.
The booq Mamba daypack is what I'm reviewing today and it's an excellent one!
After months of anticipation and rumored development, Lifeproof, (arguably one of the best protective case manufacturers for iDevices) has produced, and now released, their version of the award-winning Lifeproof case, for the iPad 2 and 3rd generation models.
Called the “nüüd”, this new, completely submersible iPad case is a revolution of design and functionality. This cleverly designed case provides a high level of defense for our precious iPads, unlike anything else on the market.
With all the chatter in the blogosphere, about new products
soon to be released, and patent battles
being fought on all fronts in the courts of law, I think it's important to keep in mind the old expression: "You ain't seen nuthin' yet!" Truly, hasn't this week been a great example of that.
With the court cases bringing out details Apple would just as likely have preferred to keep private, we have been granted a rare insight into the evolution of products in the Apple iDevice chain, as well as having been given glimpses into what Apple had in mind, in prototype form
, two years ago.
That said, can you imagine what Cupertino has in store for us in say, 5 years? That's not that long. Think about it. Within 5 years, devices and functions that are now, only in prototype/patent form, may very well be seeing the light of day. It's not for nothing that Johny Ive
says that the products Apple is working on now, are some of the best, most exciting products Apple has ever invented!
