In the past I've covered free apps for streaming video, in my blog posts and in our magazine, and my list of best apps has always included the free SnagFilms app for the iPad. I wanted to alert you that a couple months ago they also came out with a version for the iPhone. The SnagFilms app gives you access to over 300 independent films. There are 17 categories of films, including Festival Flims, Award-Winning, History, Science & Nature, Romance, Fascinating People, Comedy, Drama, Short Films, Health & Food, and more.
Wars Online – Defend Your Kingdom is a great app from MobeLabb which you can get for free on your mobile device. This is an excellent example of what castle defender games should be, it has everything you're looking for and once you pick it up you'll be hooked for hours on end. From the exciting game play to the complex strategy, this game is truly well made from opening title page through to the end.
I read two very different sources of inspiration this week... First, Parolisse is a study reference to help one drill down into the Bible. The app includes several translations and supporting material to help you understand practically any Bible topic. Next up is The Rookie: an amazingly cool story of a rookie QB starting his first season in the Galactic Football League. To simply state that The Rookie blends Sci-Fi yarn-spinning and football together (admittedly a weird mix) is akin to stating the Taj Mahal is but yet another ornately decorated building. The story just freakin ROCKS! If you are a hater of either football or science fiction, The Rookie might just convert you to both in one fell swoop...! No exaggeration...
Bloggn is such a good Tumblr client, it has already made me wish I was a more frequent Tumblr user, and with such a silky smooth Tumblr interface at my fingertips I have been enjoying my time on Tumblr more than ever. Lately, with the help of Bloggn, I can't help but notice myself making excuses to keep checking back with my Tumbler account, just for the ease and intuitiveness of this stellar app, working on this Bloggn app review being top of the list.
EventiCal is an interesting app from PARK LLC which can help people manage their busy social life so they never miss anything that they wanted to do again. You can create your own events and share them with friends over Facebook (without ever leaving the app!) or add in a special event that you plan on attending. Where the app really gets impressive is the fact that when you log in to your Facebook account with EventiCal it will go out and find all the events listed on yours and your friends Facebook accounts. The entire app is very well made and easy to navigate making it the best way yet to use your mobile device improves your life.
Sanho makes a variety of battery packs under the HyperJuice name that give you extra power for iOS, Apple, and other USB based devices, but I was intrigued by their latest offering. The iUSBport is a hockey puck sized device that takes any USB hard drive or flash drive and turns it into a wireless storage device!
I promised I would post up a news item when Atomic Frogs came out, and I am more than a day late...sorry! I will be reviewing it soon, but since I do love me some physics puzzlers, and this one looks interesting, I had to mention and at least share the trailer. It certainly portrays excellent and explosively fun frog game logic (whatever that means), but well...aw, see for yourself in the trailer above! I'll shut up now, and hopefully get to that review very soon. Read on for more PR info about the game below... Check out the free version here!
Forget Find my iPhone, and Find my Friends... With the WalletTrackr, Phone Halo's SelfStarter (an open source competitor to Kickstarter) project, you can use your iPhone, or iPad, or iPod touch to find just about anything! Attach a fob to your keychain or insert a slim card in your wallet or purse and use their iOS app to find the object using a slick interface. The app will remember where the fob was when you were last in contact with it, and play a song when you become separated, and help you find it, much like Apple's Find my iPhone.
Plingi Juggle is a great arcade style game which will keep you entertained by challenging you to keep beating your high score, or that of your friends. In the game you control two plingi spiders which carry a net between them. A third spider is up in a fruit tree knocking berries down to you, and you are responsible for moving the two spiders on the ground under the fruit. As the fruit drops you need to have it hit your net where it will bounce off to the right and into your basket.
I have regaled the iPhoneLife readers with tales of Galaxy on Fire 2, which is my personal favorite Space shooter RPG on iPad (and frankly stunning on my mini), but looks like there is a relatively new space game in town also with some pretty sweet-looking space combat visuals! I'll be posting up a review soon, but you can check out the animated eye-candy in the embedded vid above. The title is Galactic Phantasy Prelude, is currently 99 cents and you can get it here. I've already checked out some of the online comments, noting that upgrades rely heavily on IAPs, which will turn me off, but I'll leave the jury out until I review it.
Best iPhone Apps, iPad Apps, iPod Touch Apps | iPhone Life Magazine
We review the Best iPhone Apps, iPad Apps, and iPod Touch Apps. Whether you want to play a game (like Chillingham Manor), navigate with GPS, or discover new apps, you can easily get lost. There are so many on the market and the number is increasing on a daily basis. So where to begin? The following examples are just a few of what is out there.
The Head Finder is one of the iPhone apps around. It is a task management or schedule management that helps you organize all the different things you have to do. It has a very simple user interface and it seems they designed all the most common functions to be done with as little tapping and typing as possible which is a real time saver. Several time management apps, in the past, have seemed to waste more time entering events and tasks into the app than you might save by being more organized. With Head Finder you can have a new task entered in less than thirty seconds with their quick three tap process to create a reminder.
Another one of the best Iphone apps we've seen is The JumiCam. This app allows you to view streaming video from any web cam you want with ease. It's easy to set up the software on your PC and then connect your phone to see what's going on at your house. The JumiCam also works very well on either a 3G connection or WiFi. This app allows you to connect to as many different web cams as you want so you can monitor your entire house while you're away if you want. It can really take the place of an entire security service if you wanted it to. There are many ways to use this, from keeping an eye on a babysitter while you're out on a date to making sure your pet is safe at home while you're at work.
As the name describes, U.S. Traveller is made for travelers that call the United States their home and travel to countries outside their own. In opening the iPhone app, on the "Countries" tab, you are presented with a list of countries & their correlating flags. The added flags next to the country names are a nice touch, especially since most people can quickly find a country based on visual representation versus textual representation. You can travel from the U.S. to numerous countries - Chile, Argentina, Germany & Italy to name a few. This may not adequately prepare you for the countries you visit, but this will for sure help you. The amount of information and the ease of access it gives to people is incredibly invaluable.
