What I played this week - Snow Fight!

image

This week, I really had a blast with Snow Fight, but I was not happy about the game offering up a few appetite-whetting levels, and slapping you with an in-app purchase to continue (not a big fan of in-app purchases)... I put a crowbar in my iTunes wallet and plunked down the fat 99 pennies required to unlock the full 40+ levels remaining (yes, quite the iTunes Scrooge). The first zone of 6 or so levels is gratis, but doubtful anyone will begrudge the additional expense of unlocking the others. Simple fun is priceless after all, and the game does deliver that...

Here’s how simple it is!

2. Download the VooMote app from iTunes

Real Pinball HD Vampire Review

image

Real Pinball HD Vampire is an immersive pinball experience for iPad, and for a limited time only 99 cents (found it free using AppCube Explorer). I have some complaints about the action of the table--like flippers adjusted to make aiming harder--complaints one might make of a real pinball table. The fact that this is the kind of gripe I have about it, shows just how good the simulation of a real pinball experience RP HD has achieved...

Scout iPad Shoulder Bag: Review

The STM Scout shoulder bag can be used for carrying an ipad or netbook up to 11 inches.  This would be a great gift idea for anyone. The Scout has a removable shoulder strap and hand strap as well for carrying.  It has three different compartments for

Rumors say Apple may introduce 7-inch iPad in 2012

image

The latest buzz online says that Apple may introduce a 7-inch iPad next year. The source of many of the rumors circulating is DigiTimes, a Taiwan-based publication that typically cites component suppliers as its sources -- and that has mixed success in its prognostications. You can read more on AppleInsider.

Factor Samurai - Cut non-prime numbers down to size!

Back in my day when we used things like sliderules, protractors, and multiplication tables (had mine printed on a little cheat sheet), I remember thinking what a total drag mathematics were. I'd rather be outside playing kickball. If I would have had Factor Samurai, I would have jumped on my "times tables" like a shark eating a surfer (go shark)! If you got school kids mildly to severely uninterested in math, this is a clever way to get them interested. Read on for more review comments and info on the app...

Best iPad Apps for Photo/Video

image

Many IOS users will be taking more photographs this holiday season. I thought I would share some of the better IOS applications in the App Store for taking and editing photos. Pro Camera is one of my favorite alternative applications for taking the place of the native camera app on any idevice. Pro camera has many available options and settings for users. My favorite feature of Pro camera is the ability to zoom. Once you have the subject in the picture you can zoom in or out depending on what it needs to get the better picture. This is a great asset to any camera application and photographer.

The smart case is made of very high quality Italian leather.

Showyou -- free video aggregator app wins top award from Apple

image

I recently finished an article for the next issue of iPhone Life (on newsstands in February) about video aggregator apps. These are a lot of fun, in that they collect videos from your social networks and other favorite news or web sources and present them in a Flipboard-like fashion. I've written about Plizy in the past, and in my article I also highlighted Showyou. These two are my favorites, and both are free.

Note Goal Pro – App Review

image

Learning the piano has never been easy, but with app introductions such as Note Goal Pro; it makes learning the piano a lot more fun!  This app is able to teach about note placement, how to read music, and the definition of each note per key.  It’s very similar to taking piano lessons in your very own home, but without a piano; and seems to be just as efficient.  The only that is needed after you’ve mastered this app is an actual piano to practice with.

Everything iPad - Apps, Accessories, Reviews, Wallpapers etc | iPhone Life Magazine

What's bigger than an iPhone, smaller than a MacBook, and the most anticipated Apple product since the original iPhone? On January 27, at a special invitation only event at the San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Steve Jobs announced Apple's new "magical, revolutionary product" -- the iPad. Meant to fill the gap between the laptop and phone, Jobs said it was "way better" than either. Let's take a look at it.

Thin, lightweight, and powerful

The iPad shares many hardware features with the iPhone, including an accelerometer, an orientation sensor to switch from portrait to landscape mode, solid-state memory, and the same 30-pin doc connector. Connectivity is also virtually the same, with wireless 802.11n WiFi and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR included on all models.

iPad runs iPhone apps!

The iPad will run a version of iPhone OS, and the new device can run virtually any app developed for the iPhone or iPod touch. Aps developed for the iPhone can run on the iPad in native resolution but is large enough to touch type on.

The larger screen not only makes familiar iPhone apps like Calendar, Mail, and Safari look stunning, it also provides screen real estate for more complex elements in the UI. For example, Calendar display a split-sreen view that describes the day's appointments on the left and shows you a color map of used time slots on the right. The split-screen view in Contacts displays you contacts list on the left and the full information for the contact you've selected on the right.

An ebook reader and more

Although not build into the iPad, Apple will offer a free app called iBooks, which will allow you to download and read books from it's new virtual bookstore. The new iBooks store will be accessed from and as easy to use as iTunes.

The ultimate media device?

The iPad is not the world's first tablet PC or the first eBook reader. Toshiba, Lenovo, Acer, and others sell Windows-based tablets, and Amazon has had considerable success with it's Kindle. But Apple thinks the iPad will reinvent the category by offering a vastly superior multi-touch interface an easy access to a wide-variety of apps and media via iTunes. Aple hopes to make the iPad the ultimate media device by leveraging it's existing assets which include over 100 million paying iTunes customers, established relationships with music and video content providers, and over 100,000 iPhone OS app developers.
