After a long wait, and not knowing exactly when the iPad mini with cellular capability would ship, it seems like the waiting and wondering is over, at least for some of us!
Initially Apple informed me via email, that I could expect my new iPad mini on November 21st, which was still a couple of days earlier than some other pre-order customers were told. But that was then, and this is now.
The holidays are once again upon us, and iPhone Life is your trusty resource for informative reviews and great gift ideas this holiday season.
Welcome to my roundup of some of the best iPad carryalls available, here at iPhone Life! The criteria being used for this collective is that each bag must be specifically designed to comfortably accommodate a 10-inch iPad, as well as being unique, ruggedly constructed and built to last. All of the bags featured here are exceptional in their own way, with the common thread that any one of them ought to provide you with years of loyal service. Depending on the conditions you expect the carryalls to be used in and the individual user's temperament, one bag will suit one person better than another might, but I believe that in this roundup there is something for everyone. Whether buying for yourself or for that special someone, I hope you find this compilation both useful and helpful in making your holiday gift bag decisions.
This is my 2nd review of the iPad mini after my unboxing post, and a week of heavy use. I have managed to get it mostly configured and working with Wi-Fi and my Bluetooth devices, but I feel like I have barely begun. iCloud is not really what I consider an integrated cloud service though I can't blame Apple. The various service ecosystems do not help matters, and thus I still have not configured all my apps and services (i.e. gmail exchange service for calendars, contacts, etc.), but am getting there slowly but surely. In this post, I focus on the screen, camera and related apps...
House of Marley: specializing in gear for the iLife.
I can't talk about House of Marley without taking a moment to acknowledge the man who started it all. A man whose principles and messages of love, and “inity” continue to inspire and shape the course of countless lives in so many ways. In fact as testimony to his longevity and influence, Forbes lists Robert Nesta Marley as number 5 on the list of top-earning deceased celebrities.
You'd think squeezing 6000mAh into a sleek container roughly the size of a pack of cards would be cool enough... Only if you've never seen the stupendously excellent range of high-quality power accessories from mophie. The mophie powerstation juice pack duo (available in white exclusively from the Apple store here) is just one of many, but I was able to get the new white duo charger to test out with my new black iPad mini. If you travel a lot with iPad and iPhone in tow, this is an attractive and powerful battery option that will keep your stuff charged up..
I’m a huge fan of hidden object games, but there’s no question that they all begin to feel the same after a while. “Where Is It?” blends the hidden object game with the art of optical illusions to create what to my knowledge is a unique experience on the App Store. I was a bit disappointed that the animal category seemed so easy, but the people and objects categories have more than made up for that to provide an overall decent and interesting challenge. Replay value is a bit limited, but hopefully the proposed monthly updates will take care of that issue.
Just Mobile is one of those companies that, like Apple, consistently designs elegant products. The simplicity of their product, from iPad and iPhone stands to styli and device chargers, masks the thoughtful hours of design and number of internal iterations that they created to bring the final version to market. Does their stand designed to hold headphones continue Just Mobile's commitment to functionally beautiful accessories? Read on to find out.
I have regaled the iPhoneLife readers with tales of Galaxy on Fire 2, which is my personal favorite Space shooter RPG on iPad (and frankly stunning on my mini), but looks like there is a relatively new space game in town also with some pretty sweet-looking space combat visuals! I'll be posting up a review soon, but you can check out the animated eye-candy in the embedded vid above. The title is Galactic Phantasy Prelude, is currently 99 cents and you can get it here. I've already checked out some of the online comments, noting that upgrades rely heavily on IAPs, which will turn me off, but I'll leave the jury out until I review it.
The following post talks about my usage of the above two STM products over the last few weeks. I want to thank STM for sending these review samples over, and apologize for the delay in getting this posted. All my photos will be at the end of the quick review. I’m always looking for a good shoulder/messenger type bag. That’s essentially my portable office. Between working at home and multiple store locations, I don’t have my own office. This is it and I really like to be organized. The Velo (I’m using the medium size, mushroom color.) is a shoulder bag that has loads of storage.
The new iPad mini is so perfect for reading, don't even want to talk about it...but I will, anyway. It sounds ridiculous and pampered to say, but I can't understand how we tolerated a full-sized iPad for hours and hours of reading. Ah, the sacrifices one must make... The mini screen is so amazingly sharp, the text practically reads itself! That's an exaggeration, of course, but it seems that way to me (new device glow, it's called). I haven't done many "what I read this week" posts admittedly, but this eBook was too good to not do a quick one anyway. I like to push the free iTunes reads (especially the good ones) on our blog and magazine every chance I get. Good free/low-cost fiction, especially recent stuff is, well...as rare as nasty flying imps with sharp teeth! If you like Sci-Fi/Horror, you have to grab this series of free chapters in iBooks from Michael Stark called The Island. Anyway, you can get 3 excellent chapters free, and 2 more installments are only 99 cents each to complete the story. You grab this astonishingly-descriptive and frightening work, and you will not want to put the iPad mini down. By the end of chapter 3, you might consider keeping mini close at hand as a weapon for what you think might be lurking in the closet! iPad mini is small, but quite sturdy after all...
iPad Reviews, News, Tips and Tricks
Searching for the best iPad reviews, news or tips and tricks on accessories, apps, gadgets and more is just as important as figuring which apple product you should get in the first place. iPad reviews and news on different products allow you to make a more conscientious decision, but where should you look. Here at iPhone Life Magazine we work towards answering these very questions. This page is dedicated to iPad reviews, news, tips and tricks. This is just one example of a review that we have online (The Green Figure iHolder iPad Stand).
Another great thing about doing research is that sometimes you will find something that you weren't looking for and that can help you. For example, our page on The Best of 2011 shows our reviews for some of the best products that came out this past year. This link gives you just a taste of some of the concrete examples of reviews that we do.
Now, the iPad 2 has been around for several months and there have been several companies that have based themselves around the needs of this tablet. However, it is still a competitive world in the market of accessories. Anyone could be easily overwhelmed by all the available stands, apps, cases or any of the other niche markets. We would definitely recommend doing some research and checking out some iPad reviews to get an idea of whats available and how you are going to use your device. The market has several options to choose from today.
Such examples as IK Multimedia, have been on a roll lately, with a slew of hardware and software products tailored for amateur and prosumer musicians. Whether its stands and clips for iPhones and iPads or multitrack recording and sampling software for the iOS platform, IK has been expanding their catalog at a prodigious rate. Their latest releases include a MIDI hardware connector for the iOS platform, a sound sampler app and a iPad version of their popular VocaLive software. These iPad reviews will take a closer look at each.
