iPad mini 16GB Wi-Fi Review - Unboxing and Setup!

image

Finally have exactly the iPad that I want. The mini... I need something small and light, but with a decent screen for games, ebooks, email and web. I don't carry a lot of pix or music around (except maybe to the gym and have a nano for that). I likely won't use the rear camera that much, though that might come in handy for quick product shots or quick videos in a review or something (though have a much better P-n-S camera for that). So, if you have similar requirements, you should consider getting one. The technical specs are not great compared to other tablets this size. Slower CPU, less RAM, no GPS... So why spend the considerable price then? Hopefully I will answer that question in one of what will be several review posts on the new mini in the coming weeks. But first let's put that aside, and simply enjoy the unboxing and basic configuration of this trim new iPad! Love it or hate it, you have to admit it looks pretty cool, and why not? It is after all an iPad...

Magnet Boy App Review

image

Magnet boy is a fun puzzle arcade adventure game that challenges you to fly from magnet to magnet picking up various parts to build a robot.  The story of the game starts when a professor who has been building incredible robots is attacked by an evil villain.  The villain destroys the professor’s robots and crashes them into many pieces.  As the hero of this story, Magnet Boy has to search high and low to find the parts of every destroyed robot, and put them back together.

The iPad mini represents the maximum quality of any gadget on the market

image

Usually, when a new iOS gadget is introduced, I preorder it, receive it on the first day of shipments, and promptly write about it for iPhone Life. With the iPad mini, I did all of the above except I took a few days to write this article. Why? Because I'm using the mini too much for other purposes! Or my kids have grabbed it from me! So, it's 4am Monday and I've finally got a chance to reflect on this marvel of engineering.

Green Rage live on the App Store!

image

Am working on a full review of this quirky and unique new platformer from Paralline just released called Green Rage. If you have experienced the platform genre in the past, and think you have seen it all, you haven't and will want to grab this one ($1.99)! You mostly scurry along through twisted and varied obstacles, jump and evade baddies, and shoot stuff! Have to warn that it's version 1.0, and I had some issues with my older devices. The dev is working on those, but if you have a newer iPhone/iPad device running iOS 5.0 or later, shouldn't be a problem. Get it at the link above for iPad or here for iPhone...

Outdoor Technology's Adapt: Turn anything with an audio jack into a Bluetooth speakerphone.

image

Outdoor Technology’s Adapt is one of those clever inventions that seem self-evident after the fact. Once you see it, it just makes sense, and almost immediately your mind begins to think of numerous ways it would be convenient to have around! In fact, the Adapt by Outdoor Technology is a relatively simple device; a Bluetooth relay with a built-in microphone, which recieves and transmits a Bluetooth signal between any devices equipped with a 3.5 mm audio jack. But that succinct description doesn't do this handy gadget justice.

Google it. See for yourself. There isn't really anything else on the market quite like this. Yes, there are a few bulky Bluetooth recievers or transmitters floating around out there, but noting this balanced between being a reciever, a transmitter and a microphone, all in a self-contained mini-adapter. Definitely nothing else this tiny or ruggedly built! This is a unique gizmo, in part because it doesnt attach to the transmission (iPhone) side of things, it attaches to the reciever (earphone) side of things, making your speakers, headset or car stereo Bluetooth enabled, just like that! The trailblazers at Outdoor Technology have an original product on their hands, one that sets a high bar for any such versatile Bluetooth adapters to come! Read on for more deatils on this amazing little invention!

Thanks Jim, we were all wondering...

Well, it's not every day that I post a picture of a man's buttock here at iPhone Life, but I figure, if ever there was an exception...

Happy Halloween.

And the iPad mini seems to fit easily into a pocket.

Yep, thanks Jim.

Early hands-on reviewers agree: iPad mini reigns as best small tablet. [Roundup]

image

Technically, according to my credit card company, I already own an iPad mini. But that doesn't mean I have it in my clean little hands yet. In fact, (cue the sad violin) mine isn't due to arrive until around Thanksgiving since I went ahead and ordered the Cellular capable model.

Nonetheless, some of my colleagues have been fortunate enough to have gotten their mitts on an early release of the highly anticipated iPad mini. So without further adieu, here are some of my favorite tidbits from the first crop of reviews of the new Apple iPad mini:

As a preface, one of my favorite observations right off the bat, comes from an astute reader at the Endgadget site. In the wake of a rather ironic public outcry for mediocrity, a commenter had this to say in the forum: “Apple is a premium brand. Their products will always come at a premium. That's why it's expensive, like any other premium brand. They charge more because their goal isn't to make the best cheap tablet, it's to make the best small tablet. And that comes at a premium. It's for customers who want that. Apple fills that market. So don't be shocked when their products' prices don't compare to their competitors who have lesser build quality and lesser customer service. If you don't want to pay BMW prices, you can buy a Ford.”

Now, with that in mind, let's move forward. One of the most impressive things I found with these reviews is their consensus that the iPad mini has immediately raised the bar, instantly becoming the best small tablet (despite Apple's omission of a Retina display) in a category where other companies have had time to make a dent and gain a foothold. Read on for snippets of expert's hand-on analysis of the game-changing iPad mini...

iPad Reviews, News, Tips and Tricks

Searching for the best iPad reviews, news or tips and tricks on accessories, apps, gadgets and more is just as important as figuring which apple product you should get in the first place. iPad reviews and news on different products allow you to make a more conscientious decision, but where should you look.  Here at iPhone Life Magazine we work towards answering these very questions.  This page is dedicated to iPad reviews, news, tips and tricks.  This is just one example of a review that we have online (The Green Figure iHolder iPad Stand).

Another great thing about doing research is that sometimes you will find something that you weren't looking for and that can help you.  For example, our page on The Best of 2011 shows our reviews for some of the best products that came out this past year.  This link gives you just a taste of some of the concrete examples of reviews that we do.

Now, the iPad 2 has been around for several months and there have been several companies that have based themselves around the needs of this tablet.  However, it is still a competitive world in the market of accessories.  Anyone could be easily overwhelmed by all the available stands, apps, cases or any of the other niche markets.  We would definitely recommend doing some research and checking out some iPad reviews to get an idea of whats available and how you are going to use your device. The market has several options to choose from today.

Such examples as IK Multimedia, have been on a roll lately, with a slew of hardware and software products tailored for amateur and prosumer musicians. Whether its stands and clips for iPhones and iPads or multitrack recording and sampling software for the iOS platform, IK has been expanding their catalog at a prodigious rate. Their latest releases include a MIDI hardware connector for the iOS platform, a sound sampler app and a iPad version of their popular VocaLive software. These iPad reviews will take a closer look at each.

Whatever you may be searching for, we too are looking for answers and want to help you find them.
