I love infinite runners to the point where I’ll even play a bad one a lot longer than I should in hopes it might suddenly become enjoyable. As such, I get a bit nervous when trying a new one due to the small chance it will live up to my self-inflated standards. In some ways JOOL ($0.99) reminds me of another infinite runner I recently reviewed and wasn’t particularly kind to. However, it just goes to show that while one game might falter because of certain criteria, another can shine in spite of such things. This game might not stroke everyone’s plumage the right way, but if you’re a fan of infinite runners like I am, you should at least give it a try.
This year's Consumer Electronics Show had its share of wireless audio components, several of which I included in iPhone Life's coverage of the event. I found several new Wi-Fi AirPlay compatible speakers. Of the lot, I finally received a Wren V5AP ($399) review unit last week. Of all the Wi-Fi speakers I’ve had the chance to review in recent years, I must say this one truly gives the Sonos Play line a run for its money.
"To hear a full frequency of a recording, you don't even have to turn it up loud!"
-Kool Kojak, multi-platinum songwriter who produced Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, Flo Rida, Katy Perry
Recently, I had the opportunity to connect with the team at Munitio, a precision sound brand specializing in lifestyle electronic accessories. Pronounced “Muni-she-yo,” as in the Latin word for fortification and defense, Munitio audio gear embodies strength, authenticity, and style. Before this year's Consumer Electronics Show, I must admit, I wasn't familiar with this small San Diego-based company. Now that I am, I am excited to tell you more about it and share my review of one of its flagship products, the new SV earphones.
I have several games to report on this week, plus interesting news about the makers of Galaxy on Fire 2 releasing a mobile space shooter, MMORTS (Massive Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy) game later this year. So let's get right to it!
First up is Trigger Fist (my favorite shooter of all time), which I finally got around to grabbing an expansion pack for. Second, I'll review an old emulation game called Gridlee, a game other blog sites say allows you to drop other game ROM files into and play, although I have not yet personally confirmed this. If true, the free Gridlee may have a short life in the app store as Apple frowns on emulators and may soon yank it. Third up is P.R.O.B.E., a free Sci-Fi board game I played, which has a synthed up computer voice. Last but not least is Versu, a just-released interactive story app, reminiscent of old-school adventure games.
Welcome back to my gaming reviews as I try out some of the best new iOS games!
If you want to support a company with the most forward-thinking, sustainable, and Eco-friendly business practices in the audio equipment industry, then I have great news for you! Likewise, if investing in audio gear that’s well made, has a level of quality that comes from attention to little details, and reflects a passion for accurate sound reproduction, then look no further. Let me introduce you to The House of Marley's Rise Up headphones, available now in the Apple Store.
One of the coolest things I saw at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year was the Rift, virtual reality goggles from developers Oculus. Oculus takes the science of vision and applies it to virtual reality gaming in an arena that will be intimately familiar to any fan of iOS gaming.
I often use my iPod touch for grabbing quick home recording tracks, and one of my favorite accessories used to be the Blue Mikey
from Blue Microphones. But when an Apple iOS update killed analog input, my original Mikey became a thing of the past.
The RØDE iXY
is a similar recording accessory, but is more specifically designed. While Blue makes great mics for music, RØDE is tailored to live broadcasting. The unique RØDE iXY can capture an outdoor live event or a basement recording jam at very high-quality sample rates!
The award-winning app, 1Password has recently been updated and rewritten from the ground up, and is now a stellar universal app, running beautifully across all Apple devices. In the wake of last week’s massive breach of Twitter security, where more than a quarter of a million users' accounts were hacked, now may be the perfect time to invest in your online security. This app takes the headache out of keeping track of all of your passwords.
When G5 released Nightmares From The Deep, I had actually started to grow weary of hidden object games. Thankfully the balanced game play, focus on adventuring aspects, and interesting story kept me captivated until the end of the game. It even convinced me to play the bonus adventure, which I had never done before. Now G5 brings us another treasure from the same developers in the form of Abyss: The Wraiths Of Eden. While I’m not quite sure if I like this one as well as Nightmares From The Deep yet, there’s no question that it shares the same high quality as the previous game. Adventure and hidden object fans should have a great time with this one as well.

Now, the iPad 2 has been around for several months and there have been several companies that have based themselves around the needs of this tablet. However, it is still a competitive world in the market of accessories. Anyone could be easily overwhelmed by all the available stands, apps, cases or any of the other niche markets. We would definitely recommend doing some research and checking out some iPad reviews to get an idea of whats available and how you are going to use your device. The market has several options to choose from today.
Such examples as IK Multimedia, have been on a roll lately, with a slew of hardware and software products tailored for amateur and prosumer musicians. Whether its stands and clips for iPhones and iPads or multitrack recording and sampling software for the iOS platform, IK has been expanding their catalog at a prodigious rate. Their latest releases include a MIDI hardware connector for the iOS platform, a sound sampler app and a iPad version of their popular VocaLive software. These iPad reviews will take a closer look at each.
