Cubyrinth is a puzzle solver that will require your concentration and some Rubik's experience; Warpspeed 2 is a 3D racer with addictively retro sound/graphics; Blast Angle HD is a Dome Wars (or Scorched Earth on PC) redo with a sharp and vibrant look. iMore has posted a great roundup of the best free games for the iPad. They list their three top picks in each of 11 categories of games: strategy, shooter, sports, casual, physics, action, role-playing, racing, board, word, and simulation. While all of the dozens of games listed are completely free, they're almost all "freemium" titles, meaning that they offer in-app purchases for additional features. The article includes a trailer for most of the games so that you can quickly get a sense for gameplay.
Pocket monkey is a new side scrolling action adventure game where you control a monkey as he travels through a forest. Tower Raiders 2 Gold is a standard tower building app that adds a few different twists. The overall goal is to protect the crystals from enemies that try to follow the trail directly to them. To start; when you initially get onto the main menu, you can either “Play Now” or choose from “Options”. The options allows you to configure the sound, recycling settings for new games, and a chance to access the forums where other players are discussing issues and concerns. This is very helpful when trying to win.
Because of the Luxor franchise, one of my favorite iOS marble poppers was pulled from the App Store. A couple of years have passed and I’ve apparently forgotten my mental ban of the company that publishes the games, because here I am reviewing the latest installment of this long running series. Thankfully the game has gotten substantially better than the first go around, so I guess I’ll let bygones be bygones (especially since the game I liked will probably never see the light of day again). I’m still not sure I like this quite as much as my current favorite in the genre, Sparkle, but it certainly is a fun and frantic romp.
