What I played this week - Cubyrinth, Warpspeed 2, and Blast Angle HD

image

3 small games this week (none over 100MB in size), all of which can be had on the app store in like a minute. Cubyrinth is a puzzle solver that will require your concentration and some Rubik's experience; Warpspeed 2 is a 3D racer with addictively retro sound/graphics; Blast Angle HD is a Dome Wars (or Scorched Earth on PC) redo with a sharp and vibrant look. Read on for the mini-reviews and vids...

Customize your iCade for an even better retro gaming experience

Our readers try to get the most out of their iOS-based technology, so it's no surprise they have responded to our coverage of the iCade Bluetooth based arcade cabinet. One enterprising reader, Rob Mitchell went so far as to tweak his iCade to accommodate traditional joysticks and a breakout box, suitable for different game apps.

Best free iPad games

iMore has posted a great roundup of the best free games for the iPad. They list their three top picks in each of 11 categories of games: strategy, shooter, sports, casual, physics, action, role-playing, racing, board, word, and simulation. While all of the dozens of games listed are completely free, they're almost all "freemium" titles, meaning that they offer in-app purchases for additional features. The article includes a trailer for most of the games so that you can quickly get a sense for gameplay.

For those that enjoy a multi-player game where you can challenge others around the world; then Haypi Dragon is the perfect game for you!  This role playing game allows you to play against other dragons while working towards the ultimate goal of being the best in the world.  After all; you want your Haypi Dragon to be the one to beat!

Tower Raiders 2 Gold is Addicting at Best

image

Tower Raiders 2 Gold is a standard tower building app that adds a few different twists.  The overall goal is to protect the crystals from enemies that try to follow the trail directly to them.  Your army has a variety of different defensive weapons that can be purchased to kill any threat that travels down this path.  However, there are additional features and weapons that can be unlocked as you continue through the game.

To start; when you initially get onto the main menu, you can either “Play Now” or choose from “Options”.  The options allows you to configure the sound, recycling settings for new games, and a chance to access the forums where other players are discussing issues and concerns.  This is very helpful when trying to win.

Review: Luxor Evolved HD by MumboJumbo

image

Because of the Luxor franchise, one of my favorite iOS marble poppers was pulled from the App Store.  A couple of years have passed and I’ve apparently forgotten my mental ban of the company that publishes the games, because here I am reviewing the latest installment of this long running series.  Thankfully the game has gotten substantially better than the first go around, so I guess I’ll let bygones be bygones (especially since the game I liked will probably never see the light of day again).  I’m still not sure I like this quite as much as my current favorite in the genre, Sparkle, but it certainly is a fun and frantic romp.

Best iPad Games, Reviews, Free iPad Games

The best iPad games, reviews, and free iPad games are always hard to find, especially when you don't know where to start.  Tons of reviews on 'the game that must be played' are written right here on this page.  We are constantly looking for ways to improve and the article on the NBA 2K12, is just one example of what we do.

Here is a brief description of the article:  “In iOS world, there’s an App for everything, and everything has an App.  Until recently, the only exclusion was that of a true NBA game.  Well thanks to NBA 2K12, by 2K Sports, throwback fans of “The Hick from French Lick” and his more modern counterpart of “The Candy Man” now have their favorite teams and players in reach of both thumbs.  This is 2K sports first edition (in iOS format) for this #1 selling basketball game.  Did they do right by iOS users?  In short, “Yea baby”, they did.”

We try and keep the articles lively and informative.  Although not all of them are based on sports.  Skillz is one example that has become one of the most addictive and an overall fun game that has recently hit the market.  The concept matches many other popular music games that test your rhythm, tap speed, and ability to rock the turn tables.  It’s similar to Guitar Hero and Rock Band, but much more difficult which makes it appealing.

Another key point in choosing the best iPad games are the graphics.  Shadowgun is a new game that is pressing the boundaries of the new graphic cards.  The linked article even has a video for you to see what it actually looks like.  It's a first person shooter that guides the gamer through an intense story line out in space.

All reviews, like the ones linked above, are the best iPad games that we can find.
