The iPad mini with Retina display's portability is definitely one of its biggest selling points. Unfortunately, the more you take it around, the more likely you are to accidentally cause some damage. The wise thing to do would be to get a case; but if you don't want to take away from the iPad mini's natural form, a protective skin from iCarbons ($14.95-$24.95) is a great substitute.
Happy Earth Day everyone! I'll admit, I've got mixed feelings about the contemporary celebration day known as Earth Day, simply because I feel strongly that EVERY day should be approached with the love and respect for Mother Earth that Earth Day promotes. Nonetheless, once a year is better than nothing. We all have our own connection to this great planet and there's no shortage of cool gadgets, gear, and apps to help us get out there and enjoy all that this bountiful planet has to offer. I've put together a roundup (presented in no particular order) of some of my favorite items. This roundup features accessories that will encourage you to spend more time romping and frolicking outside, and that will support doing so with your modern-day tech in tow. The gear featured here isn't necessarily produced by any award-winning Eco-friendly companies, but they might inspire you to spend more time outdoors and perhaps develop a greater connection with this great planet and Mother Nature.
The popular Kickstarter project from PhoneJoy is now shipping and I had the opportunity to try it out. This is a Bluetooth controller that expands to fit just about any phone, in landscape or portrait. By any phone, that includes Android and iPhone, and thanks to the expanding nature of the device, the next generation of larger iPhones should fit as well!
It's been a wild winter for many of us in the United States, to say the least! Now at long last the warm weather is here, and with the change of seasons (and summer vacation!), folks will be spending more time outdoors and on adventures with their tech toys in tow. Of course, it's a good idea to have a well-protected iPhone or iPad if you're bringing it along with you on you escapades, so I've rounded up some of the best rugged, heavy-duty cases to help you find the perfect protection for your valuable iDevice.
Back in college, at Carnegie Mellon University, one of my professors posed the question, who was richer? Our choices were historical figures like King Louis, Julius Caesar, Andrew Carnegie, Napoleon, George Washington... and ourselves. The answer was each of us... None of those ancient figures could access any movie on demand via NetFlix or iTunes. None of them could communicate instantly with someone across the world, by video no less. They couldn't "see" star systems and planets as we can with apps like StarWalk. Modern technology makes our lives richer than the wealthiest people long since gone.
Lifedge is a relatively new company on the iDevice case manufacturing scene. Based in the UK, their products can be purchased both locally and abroad. Lifedge specializes in creating classy, low-profile, ruggedized waterproof cases for iDevices. Currently their catalog of cases consists of an iPhone 5 version, (which is compatible with the 5s, though without allowing Touch ID use) and an iPad 2–4 compatible case. As of yet, they do not offer a case option for the iPad mini or mini with Retina, nor do the have an iPad Air case, but hopefully we will see a wider case selection of iDevice cases from this fledgling company in the near future. Stay tuned to iPhone Life and I'll keep you posted as their product line continues to grow. In the meantime, let's take a closer look at some of the details and specifics of these waterproof and highly durable iDevice cases.
There are a good many rugged, heavy-duty, protective cases on the market for our iDevices, and over the years I've tried out most of them. Again and again I am reminded that case maker Lifeproof consistently produces the most reliable, high-quality all-purpose protective case you can find. Not only do they manufacture some of the best waterproof iDevice cases on the market, they manage to do so while keeping their case designs in line with the Jobsian vision of a sleek, low-profile, and elegantly beautiful pocket computing device. Allowing full functionality and interactivity with your iDevice, the Lifeproof cases are, simply put, what the iPhone and iPad would look like, if Jobs had designed them to be shock proof, dirt proof, and liquid proof. No more, no less. Lifeproof just released their long anticipated line of cases for the iPad Air as well as the iPad mini. Continue reading to find out how these new cases deliver on their promise to provide total protection for life on the go.
I am always swapping cases for my iPad mini, depending on the occasion. Sometimes I need crush-proof protection. Maybe even water-resistant protection, too. Other times I need an integrated keyboard. Sometimes I want the flexibility of a built-in stand with multiple orientations. And other times I want a rubberized exterior for a reliable grip.
Twelve South sent me their $99 BookBook Travel Journal (4 stars out of 5) as a companion for my many trips. I now take it everywhere, but I don’t exactly use it as intended. But let me share intentions first.
There are so many phone and tablet cases out there that you have to do something special to stand out, especially at CES. Nuevue thinks they've hit on something different with their cases that clean each time you insert or remove your device. This is possible thanks to the antimicrobial microfiber lining on both sides of the case's interior. A notch at the bottom makes it easy to push the phone out when needed.
