iDoc's Top 10 iPhone App Recommendations.

image

Considering how many apps are available in the Apple app store, not to mention how many are actually on my iPhone (close to 300), it's a bit daunting of a task to come up with only 10 apps to recommend here and now! There are simply so many amazing and award-winning apps out there and each is suited to an individual uniquely.

What I played this week - Fibble and SugarSync!

image

Fibble HD is a 3D physics/puzzle game that is a beauty to behold on the iPad, but before I give my review, I have to do a mini-review of the awesomely redesigned SugarSync (which is not a game--sorry about that). The old version of SS (a cloud file syncing app--reviewed here), was not well suited to iPad, but the coders have fixed that in their recent upgrade! So before I tell you how great Fibble is, I want to tell you how great SugarSync has become...

Middle School Confidential graphic novel apps offer novel ways to enhance confidence

image
I've written before about this company's (Electric Eggplant) first app, but the latest one, Real Friends and the other kind, builds on the past one and focuses on friendships. It's hard for middle school kids to make friends and deal with the cattiness and prejudices that seem to crop up as kids enter a new school.

VIP Orbit: Groups, circles and orbits, oh my!

image

I wrote about VIP Orbit a while ago, but they've made some enhancements that leverage the real estate of the iPad, and address some of the cosmetic concerns I raised in my initial review. As Hannibal used to say on the A Team, I love it when a plan comes together. Well, Mike Muhney, the creator of both VIP Orbit and of the highly popular ACT database program must love how the world has migrated to both circles in the case of Google and the cloud in the case of Apple and others.

Index Card pays homage to paper index cards, while making them obsolete

image
My daughter had to do a school project which required index cards, and I had to scrounge around for some. The reason I didn't have the old school cards is that I've been using the appropriately named Index Card app. It does the work of an entire stack of cards, but you can virtually rearrange and edit them as desired. Plus it looks great on my new iPad with Retina display, thanks to the realistic cork, linen and other backgrounds.

CookieCoo Dancing Star: Education, Entertainment, Blessed Distraction

image

CookieCoo Dancing Star from ThinkCube is one of those little blessings parents have come to count on in a digital age. To count on and feel good about.  Because not only have the developers mastered what it takes to keep children occupied for more than fifteen seconds, it’s not just empty entertainment.

iExplorer HD iPad App Review

image

You are no longer bound by saved files on your computer.  Because technology has changed; there are now apps available that allow you to access all of your stored files right from your phone or tablet.  This is why iExplorer HD was created.  It has given people the power to access many different attachments from an alternate location as long as you are connected with the right servers.

Easy Photo Editing with a Flick of a Finger: Touchlook HD

image

Are you bemoaning your enthusiastic but incredibly mediocre photography skills? Do you wish that there was a more accessible way for you to achieve artistic greatness? Are you looking for new and interesting ways to utilize the unique strengths and abilities of the iPad? All of these hopes and dreams can come to fruition with Colortive’s newest venture, Touchlook HD for iPad2.

Contacts Duster Pro App Review

image

Contacts Duster Pro is one of those must have apps for anyone who uses their device to keep track of the information about their friends and family.  As just about anyone knows who has had their phone for any length of time it is very simple to let all your contacts get out of date and unorganized because people today are constantly moving, changing jobs and even getting new phone numbers.  This app will help you organize everything to make them easy to find and use any time you want.

Manal AlAlem Kitchen App Review

image

For anyone who enjoys, or wants to experiment with Middle-Eastern cooking this is easily the best app available today.  Manal AlAlem is the premier cook throughout the Arab world and is famous for producing and hosting her own TV cooking show, opening cooking centers to teach people to cook Middle-Eastern cuisine properly and writing several best selling cook books.
