With iOS 7 Apple has introduced support for MFi (Made for iPhone), third-party game controllers. I anticipate that over the next few months we will see a plethora of options along with this one, which is purported to be Logitech’s entry into the field. This image comes to us from @evleaks
which has a pretty good reputation for accurate information.
A charging cable is usually just a charging cable. They accomplish the same thing by giving life to our favorite iDevices.
However, the boltBOX lightning charger by Scosche ($24.99) intrigued me. I liked the nifty, compact design of the boltBOX and the wide range of colors to choose from. I received a red boltBOX to review.
Even though there are many other retractable cables out there, my previous solution to keeping my charging cable together when away from home was to wind it up and wrap a rubber band around it before putting it in my bag. I know, I know, I'm pretty high tech that way.
Numerous external batteries are available for the iOS family of devices, though most of them only allow you to charge one device at a time. But in today's world, many digital natives carry around multiple devices. Families traveling with their phones and tablets may find themselves passing around an external battery like a canteen running out of water. Battery accessory expert Anker offers a solution with its second-generation, high-power external battery that can recharge up to three devices simultaneously. How does Anker's 2nd generation Astro3 ($99.00) compare to other external iPhone and iPad compatible batteries? Read on to find out.
Booq makes an array of tech-savvy and sturdy carrying and covering accessories, and recently I was able to review the Booqpad mini Agenda for iPad mini ($39.95). This leatherette folio brings together your iPad mini, stylus, and business and credit cards, with a 50-page notepad. Lightweight but functional, the Agenda ensures you are ready for that next important meeting.
IFrogz, which is owned by Zagg, recently released a new Bluetooth headphone called the Coda Forte ($99.99). I have been enjoying the review pair sent to me by Zagg. Full disclosure: I am not a true audiophile. If it sounds good to me I like it. So this is a review about Bluetooth headphones from an average guy, who likes to listen to music and podcasts at home, walking the dog, and while mowing the lawn.
For years I have been on a quest to find the perfect wireless headset. I have reviewed a number of very good products that came close to my high standards yet none of them have had long-term staying power. Whether it's their weight, battery life, or sound quality, there's always something that falters. So when I received Jaybird Gear's BlueBuds X Wireless Headphones for review, I had some doubts. How would these compare to past attempts? More importantly, would this be the headset that would finally satisfy my demanding expectations and bring my quest to an end? Read on to find out.
Wow! That's the word that first comes to mind when trying to describe just how amazing 50 Cent's new SMS Audio Street ANC headphones ($279.95) are.
50 Cent is know for his hardcore gangsta rap and controversial lyrics, as well as some seriously heavy bass lines. Discovered and managed by none other than Eminem himself, 50 Cent has gone on to transcend his rap star status and become a successful actor and businessman as well.
I got a chance to chat with 50 Cent at this year’s CES in Vegas. He was in town promoting his new line of headphones. We didn't get around to talking much about his headphones (it was Vegas after all), but I enjoyed our one on one a great deal, and he did offer to sign an autographed copy of iPhone Life magazine for me. It was only later that I came to realize what an amazing pair of headphones 50 had attached his name to. Look out, Beats by Dre ($299.95), there's a new contender on the block!
It's great to have an awesome tech idea. It's also awesome to have education, background in the industry, years of experience, and perseverance... Uh, by the way, none of which guarantee you have a snowball's chance in a very-hot-place of selling a successful product. So, how do you turn your game-changing tech idea into reality in the already overcrowded iOS/Android accessory market? I had a chat with Jason Fass, CEO of Zepp Labs, and co-creator of the amazing GolfSense
swing analyzer appcessory ($129.99)
to find out.
Cases for iDevices are like functional fashion accessories from past eras (hats, canes, dueling pistols, etc.). A case says you care enough to protect your investment, while allowing you to express your individual style. A heavy duty protective case might say, "I have trouble getting close to people, so I use a titanium robot of a case!" Seriously though, a bad posterior case could prove to be an ice breaker at a party, might get you out of a speeding ticket (never know?), or distract your mom from noticing you forgot to take out the trash yet again (definitely a long shot).

New audio accessories are constantly evolving for all iOS devices, and starting earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), there were some great ones in action. Most prefer something compact, with good quality sound, and affordability. An integrated app is nice, but not crucial.
The Bose MIE2i wired mobile headset
are perfect examples of earbuds that are compact, have great sound quailty and are affordable. They are highly rated for both sound quality and comfort. They come with three sizes of StayHear silicon tips and an answer/end button on the inline microphone. The reviews say the quality of sound is tops. Note that these are standard earbuds - no noise-isolating to block unwanted sound.
