Review: Arkon 22" Heavy Duty Tablet Clamp | C-Clamp Mount for Tablets

image

If you are not sure who Arkon is, they are a leader in the tech industry for providing mounting solutions for our mobile gadgets. I just finished testing out one of their new models, the Heavy Duty Tablet Clamp, Model # TAB802. This is a 22” adjustable mount for your tablet that attaches with a clamp to a table, desk or cart. (Note that Arkon also has a shorter model.)

I’ve always been impressed with their solutions because they work well. My pics will be at the end of this review, so check them out.

A Tale of Two Bags: One a Retro Military-Inspired Satchel, the Other a Futuristic Earth-Friendly Messenger Bag

image

Two distinct messenger style bags arrived this week, and they presented a nice contrast. The Trench Runner from M-Edge is a retro, army surplus-inspired satchel with several compartments for cables, chargers, and, of course, an iPad. The Narwhal from GreenSmart is an eco-friendly messenger bag (backpacks and duffels are available as well) with a strong emphasis on recycling.

If the Pelican i1075 is just a case, then Fort Knox is just a playground fort #CES #MadeInUSA

image
I don't think it's fair to call the Pelican i1075 HardBack IPad Case a "case" when it is so much more rugged and substantial than typical iPad cases. Perhaps a better term is "safebox" or "strongbox!"

The most flexible iPad case is the iPadFlex from UZBL #MacWorld

image

When I saw the iPadFlex from UZBL (as in usable) at MacWorld, I wasn't sure what to make of it. Is it an iPad case, a stand, a handle, a tripod, a suction mount, or a carrying strap? The answer is, all of the above. You can add and subtract elements to make your iPadFlex perform exactly as you wish!

Cover that keyboard with KB Covers #MacWorld

image
My family and I use the Apple Bluetooth wireless keyboard, both with our iPad and Mac mini, and it takes a beating. There are fingerprints, smudges, etc. I've been meaning to clean it, but when I saw KB Covers at MacWorld, I realized I could just cover it up! So I bought the rubber film that covers up the entire keyboard and adds a few advantages.

We jammin with House of Marley headphones #CES

image
At a certain point, probably around $100, any set of headphones is going to be just fine for the majority of listeners. So at that point, it comes down to quality, comfort, style, colors, and branding. And if the House of Marley, founded by the legendary Bob Marley's family, has anything to say about it, a manufacturer's ecological footprint and philanthropic efforts should also be considered.

Catch your tablet by the tail with Octa #CES #MacWorld

image

Wen you first see their product, you will think they made a typo with their company name and instead of Octa, they should be called Orca. But it's no mistake.  Octa's TabletTail is a vacuum-based suction mount that sticks to your flat backed tablet, ideally an iPad 2, and can give it a tail. The tail makes it easy to both grip the tablet and can be used as a stand to prop the device up.

Get a grip on your iPad with Wrapsol's non-slip grip pad and it's made in the USA #CES

Not everyone wants to keep their iPad or similar tablet in a case. The iPad 2 is wonderfully thin and to put it in a case is almost sacrilegious. Apple's Smart Cover is a nice enhancement but it doesn't always help you keep a good grip on the iPad. In fact, some users have found out the hard way that the iPad 2 can fall to the ground if you grab it by the Smart Cover!

VISBYH is a stylus for a fashionista #MacWorld

image
The VISBYH LHOPE stylus is a comfortable and cute stylus that can be color coordinated to match your attire, as long as you're wearing bright colors!

In fact, the stylus and packaging remind me of a makeup kit. It even comes with two caps, of different colors, and if you were to purchase multiple styluses (stylii?) you could have a bunch of color combinations.

Take charge of multiple iPads in your enterprise #MacWorld

image
It seems like everybody has an iPad these days, and they are making inroads in schools and businesses. This means more administrators need to keep track of, sync, and charge multiple iPads everyday. Two vendors have stepped up to the plate to make life easier for such administrators.

Kanex offers the Sydnee, an integrated desktop station that docks up to four iPads with the cables neatly concealed. You could then plug the Sydnee into your computer's USB port to sync and charge.

New audio accessories are constantly evolving for all iOS devices, and starting earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), there were some great ones in action. Most prefer something compact, with good quality sound, and affordability. An integrated app is nice, but not crucial.

The Bose MIE2i wired mobile headset

are perfect examples of earbuds that are compact, have great sound quailty and are affordable. They are highly rated for both sound quality and comfort. They come with three sizes of StayHear silicon tips and an answer/end button on the inline microphone. The reviews say the quality of sound is tops. Note that these are standard earbuds - no noise-isolating to block unwanted sound.
A comparison of these earbuds and other great accessories are in the 2011 Best Gear article.
