Mapi improves on Apple's iPad SmartCase design, and brings it to the iPhone

image
I've written about Mapi's iPad cases before, and I'm a fan of their materials and quality. They make cases for iPads that learn from Apple's SmartCover concept and take it a step further.

Like Apple's SmartCover, the flap folds in a triangle, to offer a couple of viewing angles. But you can rotate the stand to use it in portrait or landscape mode, which even Apple's case doesn't do.

EyeTV Mobile Review

image

For those old enough to remember portable handheld TV's that captured video broadcasts over the air with an antenna, Elgato's EyeTV Mobile offers a tinge of Déjà vu. For everyone else, the product provides a way to watch real-time local area digital TV broadcasts for free (that is, no additional data charges incurred). So is this price of freedom worth the nearly hundred dollar cost for the hardware? Read on to find out.

A great case... from a bag manufacturer, STM Bags

image
For a company that goes by STM Bags, they offer a lot more than just bags, and they do a great job of it. When I first got my iPad mini, as nice and small and light as it is, I knew I wanted to keep it in a case. At first, I bought a cheap case on Amazon, but it was bulky, and the magnets weren't lined up correctly, so the automatic sleep/wake feature didn't work.

Urban accessories meet old world charm in Portenzo’s iDevice cases.

image

If you were not already familiar with the Alano family of deluxe leather cases by Portenzo, I’d describe them as a great combination of rustic, old world charm and a modern-classic appearance. These high-quality leather iDevice cases are absolutely exquisite and bring an earthy, organic feel to our all metal and glass iPads. The simplicity and practical functionality of the Portenzo cases will suit many an iPad and iPhone user perfectly. Anyone who appreciates a little old world, country flavor with their iDevices, will certainly appreciate these cases.

The Alano cases for the iPad and iPhone remind me of magical leather bound books, the likes of which you might see in Victorian, early Western or Medieval times, straight out of King’s Landing. Urban gypsies, modern cowboys and renaissance classicists (anyone out there a Hobbit fan?) will all feel comforted and at ease with their high-tech devices elegantly ensconced within a Portenzo iDevice "book" case.

New audio accessories are constantly evolving for all iOS devices, and starting earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), there were some great ones in action. Most prefer something compact, with good quality sound, and affordability. An integrated app is nice, but not crucial.

The Bose MIE2i wired mobile headset

are perfect examples of earbuds that are compact, have great sound quailty and are affordable. They are highly rated for both sound quality and comfort. They come with three sizes of StayHear silicon tips and an answer/end button on the inline microphone. The reviews say the quality of sound is tops. Note that these are standard earbuds - no noise-isolating to block unwanted sound.
A comparison of these earbuds and other great accessories are in the 2011 Best Gear article.
