You Will 'Luv' a Bluetooth Speaker That's More Than a Speaker

image

I was disappointed that the new iPhone 5s didn't include NFC (Near Field Communication) for several reasons. First, it would be nice to have a feature that a number of a Android devices do, and second because it would be nice to pay for things with a swipe of my phone. But also I could try out the new Mo' Beats HD speaker from iLuv ($99.99).

A Developer's View of the New iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina Display

image

Today, Apple announced a slew of new products. It seems like only yesterday Apple released the new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c, and of course iOS 7. Indeed it was less than a month ago. And only a month or so before that, the Apple analysts were complaining that Apple wasn't innovating! This is all good news for users, but it's a mixed blessing for us developers. New hardware with new features, and a major update to the operating system means this is a challenge. But, in Chinese, challenge is another word for opportunity, and coincidentally, the Chinese market has taken to the iPhone 5c and 5s, and the new iPad Air will be available at launch in China, for the first time!

Is the Catch a Wallet, or a Case?

image

If you're like me, you carry your iPhone everywhere. And sometimes you just need to carry a few credit cards and some form of identification. Instead of a dedicated wallet, you could get a case with a built in slot for cards. I've tried a few such cases. But they're typically too bulky too make it worthwhile.

SteelSeries Flux: In-ear Pro Headset Review

image

In-ear headphones are not my favorite, but the SteelSeries Flux In-Ear Pro Headset ($49.99/$129.99) has a tangle resistant, top-of-ear design that works better than most others I have tried. Once you get these lightweight earphones situated comfortably, they will fill your head with an immersive, full-bodied sound that many in-ear headphones just can't muster. However, the trick really is getting them to seat in your ear properly. Good thing plenty of tip options are provided in the kit.

Phiaton Chord MS 530 Headphone Review

image

Having previously reviewed Phiaton's high-end wired Bridge MS 500 Headphones, I was looking forward to giving their top of the line Chord MS 530 series a try. If you own a top-of-the-line iPhone or iPad and know the quality and features it delivers, you will appreciate the high-end sophistication Phiaton has packed into their premiere wireless Bluetooth, noise-canceling headphones. But are they the ultimate headphones that you have been looking for? These are my conclusions after using the headphones nearly non-stop for the past few days.

Boost 4200 Pocket-Sized Battery Pack

image

Boost 4200 by Eton ($54.99) is a pocket-sized backup battery pack for your iPhone or iPad.

It measures, 5 inches by 2.5 inches and its slim design allows the Boost to easily fit into a pocket or purse while you're charging your device or just by itself for some power peace of mind.

What I like about the Boost is it's ability to let you know how much juice is left in it. When you pick up the Boost and shake it, it has an LED charge indicator to monitor the battery charge level. That way, you know when you plug your phone in it's going to get charged.

ZeWatch is Smarter than Your Watch, but is it a SmartWatch?

image

Everyone expects Apple to release an iWatch some day, and until then, several players have tried to fill that void. The most publicized player in the SmartWatch field is Pebble, and I was one of their early backers. I have been using mine for several months now and have come to rely on it. My phone can be in my pocket, backpack, or downstairs, and I can still get my Caller ID displayed on my wrist. I can even reject a call and send it to voicemail. But I can't answer the phone.

Game-Centered: Leaked Images Show First of the Apple Certified Game Controllers.

image
With iOS 7 Apple has introduced support for MFi (Made for iPhone), third-party game controllers. I anticipate that over the next few months we will see a plethora of options along with this one, which is purported to be Logitech’s entry into the field. This image comes to us from @evleaks which has a pretty good reputation for accurate information.

Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio Mini Review

image

I've never used a keyboard with an iPad before (really). That's why I was super excited to be able to review the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio Mini for the iPad Mini ($89.99).

What better way to try it out, I thought, than to use it to type this article?

Say Goodbye to Tangled Charging Cables Thanks to boltBOX

image

A charging cable is usually just a charging cable. They accomplish the same thing by giving life to our favorite iDevices.

However, the boltBOX lightning charger by Scosche ($24.99) intrigued me. I liked the nifty, compact design of the boltBOX and the wide range of colors to choose from. I received a red boltBOX to review.

Even though there are many other retractable cables out there, my previous solution to keeping my charging cable together when away from home was to wind it up and wrap a rubber band around it before putting it in my bag. I know, I know, I'm pretty high tech that way.

New audio accessories are constantly evolving for all iOS devices, and starting earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), there were some great ones in action. Most prefer something compact, with good quality sound, and affordability. An integrated app is nice, but not crucial.

The Bose MIE2i wired mobile headset

are perfect examples of earbuds that are compact, have great sound quailty and are affordable. They are highly rated for both sound quality and comfort. They come with three sizes of StayHear silicon tips and an answer/end button on the inline microphone. The reviews say the quality of sound is tops. Note that these are standard earbuds - no noise-isolating to block unwanted sound.
A comparison of these earbuds and other great accessories are in the 2011 Best Gear article.
