Steve Jobs’ “Spaceship” Apple Campus is Coming to Life

In 2011, Steve Jobs envisioned a second Apple Campus like that of a “spaceship landed.” Jobs imagined the structure as circular with a courtyard at its center and constucted without a “single piece of straight glass.” In Cupertino, California the envisioned structure is currently under construction with plans to be completed by end of next year.

In November 2015, the new campus looks like a half-completed football stadium. The four internal levels of the circular building are complete, revealing a wide open courtyard for the trees and greenery to come. When finished, the main building will be 2.8 million square feet, featuring several parking garages, a huge fitness center, auditorium for events, and welcome center with observation deck, cafe, and Apple Store.

When Jobs' detailed his plans for the Apple Campus, he brought the same innovative vision to its design as he did with all Apple products, “There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It's all curved... we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it curve all the way around the building... It's pretty cool.” It’s too soon to tell if Apple will indeed carry out Jobs’ curved-glass vision; regardless, it’s going to be an amazing campus.
