Review: Belkin Valet Portable iPhone and Apple Watch Charger

Review: Belkin Valet Portable iPhone and Apple Watch Charger

It's becoming clear that the folks at Belkin own a lot of Apple gear, because they know where there are gaps in Apple's product lines and how to fill them. They also take a lot of styling cues from Apple, and the result is much needed accessories that blend right in with an all-Apple environment. For example, I wrote about Belkin's Lightning splitter which will address the charging-while-listening dilemma for iPhone 7 users. Now they offer the Valet Charger Power Pack 6700 mAh for Apple Watch + iPhone($99.99), which was given one of iPhone Life's Best of CES 2017 awards.

This portable charger will really make it easy for Apple Watch owners who are also road warriors. There have been times I left my Apple Watch at home because I didn't want to worry about charging on a short trip. The Valet Charger fixes that. It's compact, with an integrated Apple Watch charging pad, and it also has an external USB port. This way, you can charge your iPhone, iPad (thanks to the 2.4 Amps provided), or other device, with one portable charger.

However, you will need to provide your own Lightning cable, as the Valet Charger charges using an included microUSB cable and does not include a Lightning cable. Of course, they can sell you one of those, but that just means another cable to bring around. The Valet Charger offers plenty of power (6700 mAh) in a beautiful design with nice heft. The design doesn't easily accommodate Apple Watch Nightstand Mode, but that's a small price to pay.

Pros

  • Beautiful design and heft
  • Includes Apple Watch charger
  • 6700 mAh at 2.4 Amps
  • Lots of power, in a small form factor
  • USB port

Cons

  • Lightning cable not included
  • Doesn't easily accommodate Nightstand Mode

Final Verdict

If you own an Apple Watch, the Valet Charger will make it a lot easier to keep it charged while you travel and even keep another device charged, too!
