You can further customize your slideshows by adding music to them.

Play music with iPad slideshows:

On the iPad, you can select songs from your iTunes music library to accompany your slideshows. Here's how you do it:

1. Open the Photos app and select the album you want to play as a slideshow.
2. Tap on the Slideshow button in the upper-right corner of the screen to display the Slideshow Options menu.

The Photos app can display a slideshow of the images on your device. By default, the Slideshow displays each image for 3 seconds and uses a dissolve fade to switch between images. You can modify the transitions to create some pretty sweet slideshows.


To play a slideshow:

1. Open the Photos app.
2. Select the album you want to play as a slideshow.

Sometimes you want to take someone's picture and immediately set it as his or her contact photo. No problem, your iPhone makes this very easy to accomplish.

You can add a photo from your Photo Album or Photo Roll to an existing contact. Here's how you do it:

1. Open Contacts

2. Tap on the contact you want to assign a photo to.
3. Tap on Edit. On the iPhone/iPod touch, it's located in the top right of the screen; on the iPad it's in the bottom left.
4. Tap the "add photo" icon and the Photos app will launch.

5. Find the photo you want to use and tap on it to select it.

6. Pinch and zoom the photo within the Choose Photo screen until it is displayed the way you want to see it.
7. Tap Choose (or Use on the iPad).

The capability to edit photos isn't built into your device, but there are some fabulous third-party apps that can let you crop, morph, enlarge, and change the photo in any way you can imagine. Here are a few to try:

Free photo editing apps:

• ArtStudio Lite (app2.me/3677). This is a very powerful app that lets you modify images with layers, brushes, tools, image galleries and much more.

If someone sends you an interesting photo, you can save it to your photo album. Here's how you do it:

Saving a photo from a text message received on your iPhone:

1. Open Messages.

2. Tap on the conversation with the image.
3. Tap on the photo.
4. Tap on the Action button on the lower left-hand side of the screen (it looks like a box with an arrow coming out of it).
5. Tap on Save Image.

Your device lets you share your photos with friends and family in a couple of different ways. The Camera app gives you the ability to e-mail photos (iPhone & iPod touch) or send them inside text messages (iPhone). We've already showed you how to send images through text message (see page 49).

You can use the iPhone 4's HDR (High Dynamic Range) capability to take pictures under sub-par conditions (too much or too little light). When you turn HDR on, your iPhone will take three pictures in quick succession with different exposures and then blend them together to produce the best image. Here's how to use it:

1.  Open the Camera app.
2. Tap on HDR at the top center of the screen to turn it on (tap again to turn it off).
3. Tap on the bottom-center camera icon to take a picture.
